The kids were out of school for spring break just like everyone else and we decided to head to the Escalante Area to try and find some solitute. Last year we headed through hwy 12 and I put the Calf Creek area on our bucket list. What an amazing area!
Nice little creek crossing in the campground
We checked out the area
We drove from San Diego to Vegas, stayed the night then Vegas to Calf Creek, the kids were itching to get their feet wet in the fridgid water
With the campground full we were forced to drive about 15 minutes and saved $15 on campground fees (no this isn't a geico commercial) to a sweet boondock location
This Is what you call truck camper friendly
happy camper
Our backyard only a few feet away
Brett is a fan of the staircase as well
We headed back in to calf creek and found site #3 open. Even though endless boondocking sites exist we Splurged and sought campsite #3 for $15 a night.
We hung out for the day exploring calf creek...we don't see many/any free flowing creeks in so cal.
Most of the day we just relaxed....
But had to play a little b-ball
The next day we headed out to lower calf creek falls....a perfect 6 mile round trip hike
Of course Dad had to ice the body down after the long hike
Be careful of the mercury levels of the fish as it can drive you to go a little crazy
We started to head back home and decided to buy our annual NP pass and eat lunch at Bryce...it was about 40 degrees and the hoards were out
I had reservations for Zion...what a mistake during spring break...so we headed to the masses!!!
We made the most of it considering we felt like we were camped in the middle of los angeles Newly renovated campsites have removed much of the cover and the campsites are exposed to the world
Happy trails!!! Lessons learned: avoid national parks during holidays...when in doubt boondock...the grand staircase is our favorite place on earth ๐

Never disappointed with the locations you travel in, or your photography. But the scenes are better when they have your kids enjoying the great outdoors! Thanks for taking the time to put this report together.
