Trailer Tires...trusting the Goodyear Endurance?

I had ordered the Carlisle Radial Trail HD in a D range. There was a shipping problem. Discount Tire is stepping up to the plate offering the (in stock) GY Endurance tires at no additional price (from $57 to $108 / tire).

Doesn't seem many miles have been put on these? Surely Goodyear did all they could to eliminate another mess of a trailer tire.

It seems like an obvious decision price wise, but what say you?

They got my business too. New tires are on.

The buying experience was....shall we say, different. Too much to type here, so I did a video on my thoughts.

People have been whining for years that no trailer tires are made in the USA. Now that one finally is people wonder whether it will be good. Goodyear listened and should be commended. They will get my trailer tire business.

The original tires on my 2000 Jayco Eagle were Marathons. When I had to replace then all I still went with GY Marathons but changed to a D instead of original C.The original spare exploded . I don't know why. Called my local GY dealer and spoke to him about getting a GY rep to consider a free replacement. It was approved. So I got five new tires for the price of four. I was a happy camper.

I just installed a pair on my motorcycle trailer, load range D. Weight of motorcycles and temps here in AZ will be a good test for sure. I have only run them about 150 miles so far. Replaced a pair of old Carlisles with them. Time will tell.... Discount tire has always done good for me so I'm hoping their right about the tires.

I would never, ever put a Goodyear tire on my rig. I made many posts about 18 years ago about Goodyears, and won't bore you with them again. I'd just as soon bolt a bomb to my rig as a Goodyear. Just go to a reputable brand like Michelin or one of the good Japanese tires. Worth it!!

Thanks.

I have an appointment this morning to have them installed. I'm going to go with the Endurance. Waiting on the Carlisles will bring me uncomfortably close to when we leave this year.

On paper, the Endurance seem better than the Carlisle. Fingers crossed that I'm not starting a new thread on this in the future. 🙂

I just had a conversation with my local Good Year guy. The Endurance is replacing the Marathon. He still had Marathons on stock but said I should go with the Endurance because of the longer trips I take. Also said the GY has been very good about repairing damage due to blow outs as stated in the above post. He's always given me good advice over the years....

I just installed two Goodyear Endurance tires on my trailer -- Load Range D. They are rated at a higher speed than my old Marathons were. I actually don't tow at high speed, but a higher rating is encouraging. Instead of inflating them to 50 lb. like the Marathon, these are at 65 lb.

In my first trip with them (700 miles round trip), no problem. But time will tell.

These are made in the USA, by the way. I may be wrong, but I think that quality control is better in the US than in China.

Thanks for the input. MFL, I don't follow tires much. Sounds like there is some great customer service happening with the G-rated (are those also the Endurance line?)

Speaking of customer service, Discount Tire continues to earn my business.

Do you have any evidence that Goodyear didn't do "...all they could to eliminate another mess of a trailer tire." As if they wanted the previous problems? Why so distrustful?

I would trust them. Brother just installed them. Only time will tell.
They should all be fresh if that means anything.

If GY stands behind them, like they do with their heavier G-rated, even repairing a damaged trailer after blowout, I would take them. IMO, they are still unproven, with no long term reviews available. It seems they are designed similar to the Carlisle HDs, and Provider, another proven option.
