I have a question regarding how much my truck can tow and if the trailer my wife and I are looking at purchasing will work.

I have a 2016 F-150 w/ 5.0 V-8 Crew Cab w/ 6-1/2' bed and max tow package. The stickers off my door say:

I would ask. What is the rear gear Ratio. Just because it has the max tow package doesn't mean it has the 3.73. If not. You will be pushing it with that trailer.

Two things, with this being a bunkhouse how many are going to be in the truck and how big are they? I've got a truck with nearly identical payload and with 4 adult size people plus a tween we're maxed on payload with a much lighter trailer.

Second, I'm really doubting those manufacturer numbers, that dry hitch is under 10%, if true it's not going to tow well at all unless most of the weight you add is forward of the axles.

Total weight of passengers would be 500 lbs. + probably 200 lbs. of gear in the bed of the truck.

That's a 29' trailer that will weight 7000+ once loaded.

No way I would tow that with a 150, but everyone (including salesman) will tell you that you'll be fine.

What you have described is what I, personally, consider the max for MY truck. I have a 17 F-150 w/3.5l EB and max tow package. I won't give you the tow rating because I consider it meaningless, but I have a payload rating of 1895#.

Taking 400# for us, and 200# for the topper I had put on, that leaves me 1295# as usable payload. When camping, I figure I have an additional 200# of stuff in the bed of the truck, leaving me 1095# of available payload, aka tongue weight. When I divide 1095# of tongue weight by 15% (I calculate conservatively, then if I go over a little, I don't worry) I get 7300# as a theoretical max trailer GVWR. You are right there with your trailer.

You'll be fine. I have a 2016 truck with the eco-boost and max tow. Trailers a 30 foot with GVWR 8400. Pulled it close to 5000 miles the summer with no issues other then gas mileage is about 9.5 MPG. Enjoy your trailer.

I agree your likely going to be fine.

To figure it for sure you're gonna need a few more bits of info. The place most people get in trouble is with the cargo carrying number.

What is the approximate weight of the people that will be in the truck with you when you go camping?
What is the approximate weight of the stuff you will be putting in the camper?
What is the approximate weight of what you will be putting in the truck bed or cab of the truck?

Here's the formula you need to figure out.

1677 (Cargo/occupants/tongue weight maximum).
Subtract occupants weight
Subtract Cargo in bed and cab of truck
Subtract tongue weight (generally acceptable to plan for 15% of total trailer weight after loading) so 5595 + 420 (full water tank) + whatever the weight of the stuff you will load in the camper.

You will have to verify the tongue weight, trailer weight, truck weight on scales to make sure your not over.
