Very Loud Refrigerator??

In our new camper we have a Dometic Refrigerator that only runs off the battery or 110. When it runs, it is very loud. It is in the driveway pluged into 110 as we are packing, and when it clicks on, we can hear it in the house.

Is it normal for these to be that loud?

Thank you.

If it's the fan, it can be modified so you will never ever hear it.

I used a low noise 12v muffin computer fan - which is also what is in there.

I replaced the single with two lower volume fans, which when combined, move more air than the original.

I never, ever hear the fans anymore.

I believe there's also a converter built into the refrigerator. That could be your noise source. If there's power to the 110v plug the refrigerator will default to that, probably to save battery. I no longer have mine plugged into 110 since I don't want the refer trying to run off my inverter.

Well, we don't think it is the refrigerator afterall. Unplugged this morning from 110, finished loading the refrigerator, it came on strictly on battery power and purrs like a kitten. So it is only LOUD when plugged into 110. Thus we think it is a different problem. And this explains why it was not loud when we used it on our way home from the factory. We never plugged into 110.

I'm with DJ. I too have the CR-1110 (nameplate inside the refer up top, just inside the door). When running all I hear is the compressor, and I can only hear that if there's no other background noise.

Something is wrong with your fridge. I have the Dometic CR 1110 (107 liters) and I can barely hear it run on a quiet night with it right next to the bed.

My last camper had a compressor style fridge and I thought it was loud. Probably not as loud as your description though. Fan seemed to run all the time. Didn't bother during the day, only at night because I am a light sleeper.

I can not read the model plate, but from the book it appears to be one of the CR models --- 50 or 65 and it does have a fan. We bought this as an extra and if it works correctly, it should be a good refrig. This is the second one they put in for us ---

The camper is brand new and we are still working out the bugs with the manufacturer. This will be our first long trip and on our way home, we will be stopping at the manufacturer to address another problem. So I guess we will have them check it out.

WE just wanted to know if the loud fan noise was normal because we don't want it to go out on our trip! It is not loud at all inside the camper, just outside.

Thanks

On edit, it is plugged into 110 right now, so we will see. WE do have a fantastic fan and it seems to run just fine with not strange noises.

You sorta lost me . In your first post you said it was so loud you could hear it inside your sticks and bricks home. In this post you say it is not loud at all inside the camper. Could you clarify so we can help. I have the same compressor fridge and can help you if you will provide the relevant info such as camper mfg,why your first fridge was replaced etc.

it sounds like your refreg is in a slide out? When they put them in slide outs they don't have the vent on top, instead they have an upper and lower opening in the outside wall. They than put a fan on the back of the refreg to move air in the bottom vent and out the top vent when the cabinet gets warmed up. Yes they can make fan noise, but nothing you shouldn't be able to live with. See if the fan is not hitting on something. I have found if you open the lower vent, than use a digital camera to take pictures facing up you should be able to see the fan and if its hitting anything.

I'm thinking that you ought not hear the thing inside or outside of the camper unless it is VERY quiet and your specifically listening for it.

So if it is actually a 'fan' ether the bearing is about to go out or more likely something is interfering with the blades causing the racket.

Does your camper have any other fans? (bathroom? fantastic vent?)

My old camper had a failing AC/DC converter which would cause the fantastic fan to have a 60hz "humm" when plugged into shore power. Replacing the AC/DC converter got rid of the noise - however I surely could not hear the "humm" in my house!

If it actually is a compressor fridge again it ought not be any louder than the one in your kitchen!! Something is wrong for it to make that much noise.
