want to double check S10 4 wheel drive indicator light

Sorry for the confusion I'm a senior and not the brightest bulb on the tree.

As I indicated on another thread. My front axle indicator diagram stays lit when the floor mounted shifter is in 2 wheel high with the little light next to it. lit "2 wheel high." as it should be.

I just crawled under the truck, with the shifter in 2 high. With the engine off. The front drive shaft, going to the front differential turns freely. That I believe tells me the "Transfer" case is disengaged, which it should be ? Then I drove he truck on my Black top driveway, and turned the steering wheel all the way to the left, and went around in a circle a few times and no "Binding" of the front wheels, that tells me my front "Diff" is dissengaged as it should be.

Next I tryed 4 wheel high, and 4 wheel low and it works fine.

I also saw a "Switch" with 2 wires comming out of it, setting on top of where the cable from the vacuum actuator (under Battery) go into the front diff. I disconnect the wire connector and reconnected while i was douw there, although as I said earlier the indicator light was still on afterwords.

After all that I would like to ask

(A) is the switch with the 2 wires the "indicator switch" ? To replace it do you just turn the swicth out, there is a "nut" maybe 3/4 in or so on it I believe.

(B), I assume the switch is the problem because as far as I can see the "4 wheel system" is working correctly, just the indicator light problem.

If that is the switch causing my problem I may or maynot replace it. Although it looks pretty simple,if all you do is disconnect (wires) and then turn it out ?

Please advise and again I'm sorry for the confusion. I've had a couple of mini stokes, so my wheels in my head still turn although sometimes not in the "right" direction. LOL

Unplug the switch and make sure the light goes out. If it does, replace the switch.

You are dead on. The "switch" on the front diff is the actuator for the center axle disconnect. Like unlocking the hubs, allows both front wheels to free spin independently.
The older vacuum actuators like you have are especially probelmatic. You can replace with the vacuum model or upgrade to an electic actuator, have to run power to them I believe.
Either way it's a pretty easy job and about a $100part.
