We are trying to plan our big trip for 2016. We are new to RVing but we want to do a big trip. We are home based in Orange County California and thinking of going to Zion. So I have 2 main questions. 1) where in Zion would you recommend? (with hookups) and 2) what are the other places in the west side of the country that you all love? TT is 33ft with opposing slides too so I need the width.

We love "campgrounds" as opposed to RV Parks. Any suggestions you have are very appreciated!

I looked up Trailer Village. Looks like a good spot. Doesn't seem the campground has much to offer, but the fact that it is inside the Grand Canyon and has accessibility to all the free shuttles is great! Definitely going to make this trip in 2016. Thanks for the heads up on that one!

We drove the White Rim Trail at Canyonlands NP.

My wife refuses to ever go 4 wheeling with me again. <:-(

First, be sure to take several short trips before you take a big one -- please don't ask me how I learned this lesson.

Second, where you can go depends on how much time you have, and what time of year you are traveling. There is so much available! If you have some time, click around on my blog (see link below) -- I hope that some of our posts will be of interest to you. We also live in Orange County and have wandered over much of the western US and Canada, as you will see.

You will need reservations at Yellowstone in the busy months-- West Yellowstone is OK and has several campgrounds.

Bryce is a must see and usually early morning, when the sun just comes up, is the best for the Hoo-Doos. Also further up the road you may see wildlife. Not to crowded and may not need reservations. Good place for hiking, but at 9,000 feet take it easy. Much cooler in the summer and comfortable from the hot desert.

I know it is a bit further north, but Yellowstone is a fun place to camp.

Bryce is definitely worth visiting. We stayed 3 days last September and loved the park.

You might also include Bryce, not too far from Zion and a lot fewer people. We were in Zion briefly last year and there were so many people you couldn't hardly turn around! Lots of places to see and camp in that area of Utah.

We like Dead Horse Point state park. Pretty centrally located to several scenic areas. You might want to call ahead and make sure these places are open.

To my knowledge, Zion Watchman CG has electric-only hookups. Check the nps.gov website for Zion NP for details.
