I was fixing the water tank support on my Sunnybrook and noticed it was a Dexter frame. I am very impressed with the design and manufacturing. Every suspension point is reinforced with a well designed plate. The floor trust use round rod in cross pattern simular to comercial buildings. The I beams are a light weight RV design, not and assembled beam. I expect good performance for this unit.

One manโ€™s experience with Sunnybrook and Dexter framesโ€ฆ
Fixing the water tank supports seems to be a popular pastime on the Sunnybrook trailerโ€ฆ
also its the weak Dexter frame that allows too much flex in the trailer causing things likeโ€ฆ falling water tanks, plywood becoming ripped loose from the roof trusses, siding buckling and cracking above the door and in the same area on the opposite sideโ€ฆ then more importantly there were the unexplained sticking doors that needed the jaws of life to get open, or just wait a half hour and it would open like nothing was wrong, to the annual door replacement because they were bent too bad to reinstallโ€ฆ all caused by the weakness in the impressive looking Dexter frameโ€ฆ
Talk is cheap on the internet. Yours is cheaper than most. I'll trust my assessment of structural design of my travel trailer frame. The frame of a travel trailer is one part of a system. The floor, walls and roof all add or subtract to the strength of the frame. The processing and the shipment of frame also have lots to do with quality of the final product. Sorry about the problems that you have had, but I doubt you even understand the root cause of the issues.

First you can not intimidate me with your cheap talk cheap shot, on the internet or anywhere elseโ€ฆ

I sorry but I understand very well the root cause of the issuesโ€ฆ the problem is that Sunnybrook didnโ€™t have a good understanding of the root problemโ€ฆ in 4 attempts to cure the problem at the factory they failedโ€ฆ not for not tryingโ€ฆ but then they tried to deny ever hearing of the problems they had years after I dumped mineโ€ฆ
After spending many weeks at the plant and them spending thousands of dollars while the siding was stripped and replaced annually, 3 doors replaced at the factory that were too bad to reinstall, replacing a fresh water tank that fell out on the highway. Another trip to the factory to have 2 sheets of ruined plywood on the roof replacedโ€ฆ seeing others at the plant for the same and similar problems each time(when they did very few on site repairs there), the many and continual post here about cracking and the buckling of siding above the door and near the roof line, and seeing others in CG and rest stops and fuel stops with signs of similar things, I think I know more than enough about itโ€ฆ

Just some post made on RV.net alone not counting dozens of reports on Sunnybrook having problems with over flexing frames for many yearsโ€ฆ
>
maybe something to look out for, is some of these units developed a crack in the siding above the door frame. It's supposedly a door frame support problem caused by flex. I know of another 298 BH here in town which cracked just like ours '08 that we bought new in late '07
>
I just posted on another thread that I am taking mine to the factory in April to have the cracked siding repaired/replaced '08 that we bought in early '09.
>
How does this happen? I would not have believed that aluminum siding would tear like that. It is above the hinge side of the door, and it is under the rolled up awning, Trailer is a '95 Sunnybrook.

I agree, but how can Lippert let the same super-flexible 3-piece fabricated I-beam frames used on a number of ultra-lites out the door? If the customers ask for carp, they build carp? What JJBirish describes below can and does happen to these frames too, and they're still building them. Maybe until you've had one, you'll never know what can happen. Lippert can and does build some decent frames but they aren't on units that should have them. A lot of it is about saving a few miserable $$ and a few miserable pounds.

Jayco is using the BAL Ultraframe on some of their TTs like the Whitehawk. Nice looking frame.

The connection is the "Dexter" frame.

What about Jayco?

like many companies, Lippert produces various levels of components .... after they took over Dexter, Jayco has used Lippert frames but there is major difference .... the frames they buy have to meet design and component specs provided by Jayco .... they are not off the shelf frames .... so long as they provide Jayco with frames that meet the Jayco specs, there shouldn't be a problem .... if/when they should drop the quality, Jayco has a history of building a facility in which to produce their own components

These are the decals on my 2014 264BH. Smaller decal is on the inside left a-frame under the propane tanks; larger decal is on the outside right frame rail near the front.

I read the Lippert bashing as well.
But, I am on my 3rd TT and the first one with a Lippert frame. It is by far the best one. I have had to do some welding on the first two, one of which was a Dexter. (2001) This one has been perfect. And the workmanship looks first rate.

Some say that the trouble is that the manufcturers spec the frames. That very well could be.

Got your trailer's VIN number? If so, call Jayco customer service, they should be able to tell you anything you want to know about your trailer.

Look behind the coupler on the inside. Lippert used a paper sticker there. May be gone by now.

It might be dexter but lippert now owns them so you would still have to deal with lippert
