What is the problem with Camping World?

So I've seen a lotta people bad mouth CW in another post I had but not any real specific reasons. Why should I not go there? They do leave a bad taste for me after that nearly 2k extra fees but why do you guys dislike them so?

There's nothing about 'the media' when you're listening to him on live Tv.

Yeah, close it. It's going south, fast.

When did this go from a "C/W services kinda suck sometimes" to a "The Owner of C/W said stay out if you support Trump's comments on Supremists"...

Honestly, this thread has run it's course...Moderators, please close it.

The issue is what did President Trump say? See my post at the bottom of page 4 to see what he actually said. He didn't call them fine people. The media, as usual, tried to twist his words. Please know what he said before you comment on it. Get past your hatred of him if you can and read the truth about his statement.

Correct. He asked white supremacists and their ilk not to shop at his stores. Apparently for some folks, that is a bridge too far.

"Good people on both sides" isn't in that statement. I pay attention to everything he says...and doesn't do.

Here is his statement.
President Trump's Comments

Maybe others should read what he actually said and not what the media claims he said. I have no problem whatsoever with what he really said.

Our only complaint about CW (in Myrtle Beach - the newer one, not the one on 501) is the length of time the service department takes to do even a simple repair. We lived in the area for over a decade, and several times needed to seek their help for a problem. Nice enough people, and we knew when not to go (peak tourist times, of course) but it ALWAYS took much longer than we were told for repairs to be made. "Parts haven't arrived", "you're next on the list", "call back tomorrow, it should be ready". Simple things too! They either don't run the department very well, desperately need more employees, or don't care! Think it's all three. Have often had to return to 'fix the fix' on several occasions. Have had much better results using the service department of the original CW on 501. Think the new one is far too into sales, far less into service.

Well, maybe I am naive, but I for one appreciate their retail inventory. Yes, the prices are high. But when you really need that left-handed door latch for your screen door (and yes, there are lefts and rights), CW has it in stock.

And the sales staff often knows a lot more about the parts in question than I do.

I have never taken my trailer there for service, so I can't comment about that end of the business.

My attempt at buying parts was exactly the opposite. I replaced a toilet and discovered that the ABS toilet flange was cracked. I went to CW and was fairly confident that they would have one in stock. The counter help could not function without a make and model number of the toilet. I patiently explained that this was a generic flange that had nothing to do with a specific toilet, and would not be found on any information regarding the toilet. She insisted on going through parts diagrams, as I noted that the flange was not there, nor should it be. I even asked another employee at the counter, and had a quick conversation with a service manager. It became pretty obvious that all three had zero experience, or knowledge of how a toilet works, and what it is actually attached to in an RV, as they all said that you can't get the right part without knowing the brand, model and ever the serial number of the toilet.I thanked her for trying, and drove half a mile down the road to a large local RV dealer. Five minutes later I was in the parts department, and rooting through their big bins of ABS sewer fittings, until I found what I needed.

The difference between the experiences is the difference between needing help at a big car parts chain, or going to see the counter guy at your independent NAPA. NAPA guy has been there for two decades, and spends his free time getting his dirt track car ready to race, or fixing his tractors. Big chain guy doesn't know his elbow from his ear, but can scroll through the parts computer for hours, finding and learning exactly nothing. Not a ding directed toward CW, just the way it is in our society at the moment.

To me, CW is sorta like our local Ace Hardware: a tad higher priced on some stuff, but more convenient than Loweโ€™s or HomeDepot.

If you read what Lemonis actually said, that shouldnโ€™t deter you from shopping there. Unless, of course, you are a white supremacist.

$2,000 in extra fees? I am already gone long before those fees are paid.

Yes indeed. A few years back we were just wrapping up the purchase of a new travel trailer at their store in Tampa. At the last minute they quietly added the "$795 dealer fee" to the bottom line. I just calmly said no. They tried the "it is mandatory, corporate won't let us write a deal without it" game. I then told them I understand, and the way we will be resolving this is that we will be lowering the purchase price by the same amount. They were not happy, and needed to pull the "huddle in the back office with the manager" game. They then decided that my way was better than no sale, so they took the deal. A half hour later we walked away for good, as the unit had crash damage on the front and back, including stress cracks in the front fiberglass cap, likely from smacking a street sign, or something similar. The sales manager was furious that I was so unreasonable as to refuse to purchase a new trailer with obvious damage. I laughed. Since then I will do business with them, in their store, if I really need a low cost item that I can't find easily, elsewhere. As for me buying or servicing an RV there? From all I've read, experienced and heard from past employees, no it will never happen.

Lemonis said that if you felt the white supremacist trash at Charlottesville were very fine people than you shouldn't shop at Camping World, but maybe that doesn't change some people's answer.

I am totally new to RVing and just bought a camper from a CW location and it has not gone smoothly at all. I do wish I had gone elsewhere.

But to their favor, I got angry and emailed Lemonis directly at 12:30 AM this past Sunday in the middle of the night in the middle of Memorial Day weekend. Lemonis personally responded to me within an hour and had people at both the national level and the dealership on the phone with me the next morning.
