Who's hitting the road this summer?

With all of the virus stuff, I am certain we are all tired of being stuck at home by now. I've been stir crazy for months now and ready to hot the road. In the midst of planning my own summer time road trip with the family, I've been wondering what type of crowds I should expect at National Parks and campgrounds. My initial thought was it would be a low traffic season with people wanting to avoid others but I've started to hear some rumours that places are already very busy after reopening.

So, how many of you are looking at traveling this summer and what changes are you making because of the virus / restrictions?

Start trip preparation. Boat got renewal on the net, truck needs to do smog and wait in probably long line to DMV as they don't do appointments any more.

Yes, had our first trip out since the start of the virus. It was good to finally get out. Just got back from 4 nights in Pinaleno Mountains (Coronado NF) in AZ (2 boondocking, 2 primitive CG). Will do 2 weeks boondocking around North Rim Grand Canyon toward the end of this month. Hope for several more spontaneous getaways late summer/fall once we find out what the high school and college Covid schedule will be for our 2 boys.

We prefer to stay away from all others anyway and boondock 95% of the time, never stay at private campgrounds. Glad I don't have to make reservations anymore. We made up a jingle many years ago with the kids: "KOA campground packs you in, like sardines in a can." No thanks.

We took a 3 day trip to Idaho a few weeks ago, and a 3 day trip in northern WA riding our side by side last week. We are heading to a different area in northern WA again in a few days. We have everything we need in the motorhome but we do visit with other campers in the rv parks. We have more trips planned in Idaho with other rv couples in July also. Most of us in eastern WA are tired of this lockdown.

Stats??? we lost 80k in 2018 to the flu. This thing could multiply by 10 and it doesn't compute to sending us into a depression. There is more to living than life... it'll always be open to debate whether the 'shut down' was the savior, but never open to debate that we have room in the hospitals now and that the virus isn't going away. Open it up and clear the way and get through it.

We've had reservations cancelled on us...Destin FL (Topsail), and Colorado. Just a few weeks ago, got reservations at Rafter J in Hill City, SD (Black hills). Been there several times, and reasons for going back is (1) state is open) (2) they had 1 spot open for our week (3) We've seen Mt. Rushmore, etc...but there are ample opportunities to hike, sight see, and kayak...without too many folks around.

We are heading from there to Devils Tower (KOA) then to Wall SD (Sleepy Hollow RV Park) for a trip thru the badlands.

We've done this trip before, but for our kids, it's been 5 years so kinda still new to them...and some of the trip they don't remember. Biggest thing is that we will be out west...avoiding (hopefully) the issues of the day.

One trip already taken with our Side x Side Polaris General and two more planned one to Northern Washington and the month of September Boondocking / Trail Riding in Wyoming and Utah Aphreen Trail System.

We are leaving July 1 for 3-4 weeks - Zion,Grand Tetons, yellows stone and Up to Coeur D’Alene Idaho then over to Washington, down to Crater lake Oregon and back home to SoCal. We have camping reservations booked all the way up to Idaho, nothing yet for Washington or Oregon. It will be our first road trip in our new to us Camper we picked up last week. I got lucky we scored RV spots as everything is booked up solid.

We're going to West Yellowstone. I expect that area to be a little less busy as they usually have a lot of tourists from overseas that may not he coming. Quarantine rules for incoming visitors may cause a slow down too. Other than that, local trips and fall hunting.

We have been cancelled more times than I can count---some can not take out of state campers. Working on TN now as I will be racing in Bristol in a couple of weeks. Mama looking at Sept to head out West if she can get us in where she wants. We try not to stay in any dumps, Picky

I've got my first camping reservations that might not get canceled (the first one was cancelled by the state last month), so I'm going... I'm just going to have a little common sense about it all and not think it's some spring break or demonstrating deal! 🙂

I don't think it's going to be like last year, or even 4 months ago...

I'm in an age group that should be concerned, and my wife is even older (don't tell her I said that!) so just gonna mostly see what other's around me are doing and go from there...

I'm not going out of state or going to go on any cruises or even take a **** bus, but I'll have as much fun and deal with the new world as our elected officials see fit... 🙂

Spent three nights middle of May tooling around central Washington..camping on fire roads.

Spent 6 nights in the Peninsula area week before last. Even ate a normal meal at a restaurant. lol, Inslee would not have been impressed by the following of his orders. Dog and pony show is seen for what it is.

A couple of nights in Moses Lake; working on some property, last week.

And just pulled in from two nights in Westport..and a giant chest of Ling Cod. Limited easily each day, pulling 3 dragons on Friday.. 40+ inches each. Awesome.

Spent last week traveling around central Pennsylvania staying at state parks. I got by without reservations Mon, Tues, Wed, but made reservations for Thur, Fri, Sat. Glad I did - the two parks I stayed at were full!

I already did on day trips. My plans for the spring was few days at Valley of Fire but, campground closed and now it is too hot to go there.
Summer plans were Lake Powell, so I wait impatiently for Lone Rock campground to open. Getting the boat re-registered with offices closed is another adventure.
Our patio boat has full enclosure, so the idea is to pack food, booze and dogs on it and hit the lake. With 93 canyons there is lot of space for isolation.
EDIT. This topic made me recheck and Lone Rock Beach campgrounds seem to be open.
Time to start packing
Than with epidemic on high rise, who knows what tomorrow will bring?
