Will a 3/4 ton do

I have an rv that is at the 14000 GVWR. I need a new tow vehicle and was wondering if a 2500 or 3/4 ton truck would safely tow this. I would appreciate your knowledgeable input on this. Would this being a 5th wheel make a difference?

I was kicked off a RV Forum because a Mod Smoky Wren did not like me because I would not back down to his the sky was going to fall and I was Satin for exceeding my 14k GVWR but I was at or under both of my SAE axle ratings.

They made up some BS that I was violating the no sales rule when I said to a guy wanting to buy a new truck and RV. I said "I have the rig for you" posted a pic and went on to explain what I had just purchased and why he would like the same rig i had. It was clear I was NOT trying to sell anything and I got a long ban. Then when I was allowed to return another member mentioned wanting to sell something and I said "best not to try to sell anything on here as they may ban you for trying to sell something". Just like that I got a lifetime ban!!!

IMHO, best people know good vs bad habits. There are a multitude rules and laws that will get an unsafe person off the road. ALL of them are moving violations, way the heck worst than being over wieght! Which is a non moving violation.

Heck, I've been on this board for almost 10 years and there are still PLENTY of members who still refuse to or aren't smart enough to understand this.

Yes, that is some progress for sure! I am still surprised at how many still firmly believe in stickers, that are there for Govt regs, in many cases. Maybe more do understand, but just for sake of discussion keep the ball rolling??

Those folks absolutely put me to chame (Spanglish for shame)!
And youโ€™re right, I donโ€™t recall seeing them pulled over by the 5-0 nor upside down in ditches.

If you knew how many 15-25% local road grades one has to go up here in the Puget sound region, you might figure out why a person would come up with a 30%grade want. No different than folks on here saying reduce max tow by 20%.
Forest service roads have no max limit like interstates at 6%.
My sister lives on an 18%grade.
People do drive fully loaded trucks with trailers thru Seattle, I'd be 50%of the roads are 15% or steeper.
A perfectly capable RV pickup as you say, needs to work for those in construction, delivery, grocery getter etc. Ratings are one size fits all.
I have stalled an older truck out with my RV in tow in 2wd when it should not have stalled out. With in gcwr mind you.
I have MY definition of min performance of what a truck should do. I have no problem saying, the current spec is lower than my mine.
My performance spec is really no different than one needing proper wieght ratings for payload needs etc. Just another, will this truck work for me. You should be doing the same! Demanding actual specs saying the truck you buying will get you from point A to B on what ever type of road you drive on.

Actually my plate is from SD and it has no specific tonnage but they say it covers whatever I can throw at it.

I am not one to go by factory GVWR since it is based on outdated trucks and needs to be updated for todays trucks instead of those half a century ago. Nor is it legally binding to me in any way.

I do go by GAWR since is not based on any government regulation, but rather the limitation of the actual hard parts. In this case, you can't go much over 14k since both of your GAWR add up to 15,850 lbs. The GAWR's of my 2500 add up to 12,500 lbs, but has a GVWR of 10k, while the the 3500 version of my truck have GAWR's that add up to 13,000 yet has a GVWR of 12,300. So your combined GAWR is 1,850 lbs over your GVWR, a SRW 3500 of the same year has a combined GAWR at 700 lbs over its GVWR, and my 2500 has a combined GAWR that is 2,500 lbs over its GVWR.

Why does the 3500 SRW, which is well below the max 14k GVWR of it's class, only has 700 lbs separating its combined GAWR from it's GVWR, yet both our trucks, which are at the max GVWR of our classes, have over 1,800 lbs and 2,500 lbs separating our combined GAWR from our GVWR. Hmmm!?!

Some of you are getting way off in the weeds.
This is an RV forum. Dissing perfectly RV capable trucks because they will not go up a 30% or whatever grade at a construction site is just not important to an RVer.... I am sure there is a more appropriate forum to discuss such issues.
I find them boring to the point that I fail to read most of it.

I will suggest that if those that want to spend time on these long detailed posts want people to actually read them.... find a forum where people are interested in such dribble. Otherwise you are just wasting your time, as most here just don't care about your issues.
