Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Without going into too much painful detail, we had a mishap several week-ends ago. While working with sand bag crews on the Mississippi River, the truck and camper fell into the flood waters as a road collapsed. Because of a number of issues dealing with the wrecker truck, we had to release the camper as the truck was reeled up over the bank. The good news is that the truck is as good as new after a thorough rinsing, inspection of brakes, etc. The bad news is that the camper was thoroughly drowned. A lot of people had far worse trouble than we did, so we consider ourselves lucky. The floods are ongoing as I write.

Our planned trip to Montana in June is called off. heh.

However, I have now convinced my dear Jane that its time to really update the TC. After drying for several days we pulled out the interior. Amazingly the Zolatone paint that I had applied last year is good as new after a cleaning.

Without burdening the TC family overmuch, I'd like to ask some advice other than don't park too near a flood :-).

My DW was overjoyed that I had a plan for the bathroom: a composting toilet developed by Nature's Head http://www.natureshead.net/. Our holding tank was practically unusable and there was no real grey water tank on the 67 Avion. Our plan is to rip out the bathroom and install one of these and converting the blackwater to a greywater tank. Any experience with this?

Finally, the roof. I admit that I have not really done the work I should have. Now, I need to remove the various sealants on the roof and repair it. We are also setting up for a solar installation. Any advice as to this?

Here's hoping I have posted the pictures correctly. And many thanks in advance for your advice.

Well Rasta, seeing that youโ€™re towing people may ask for a discount.

All good ideas fellows, however I really do think we need to charge a fee.
We could have several teirs. Basic would be to just look, next level would be to touch and pet. Then the preium would be to actually enter the interior and have their picture taken.

Perhaps a handout with before and after photos and referrals to eBay and Craigslist...

Cajunavion, you are absolutely correct. Perhaps we need to appoint a spokesperson who can make an announcement whenever crowds appear, as they inevitably will. If we don't get a firm structure in place I can imagine a mass melt down at Muley Point....like the Day of the Locust.

Howdy!
So whoโ€™s going to be entering the November chili cook-off in Terlingua? We are feasting at Kreuzโ€™s in Lockhardt. Big Bend tomorrow! I do have one fear, if this fiasco does go off, multiple Avions in one place, at one time, may make something akin to nuclear chain reaction take place. We are likely never to be allowed to quit answering, โ€œWhere did yโ€™all buy these Airstreams fromโ€?

โ€œYeh Mon ....That's what I am talking about, although I have yet to see the waterfalls ;-0โ€

Rasta, Pine Canyon on the east side of the Chisos always has a waterfall - and pines.
And in BB State Park, Madrid Falls is a magical oasis, with columbine and hummingbirds!
Good day trips for the April meet-up!

This venture will be epic. From Carbondelay (ยฉ) Illinois to La Rasta Terlingua to Muley Point.

Not for the faint of heart!

No doubt...however I would argue that owners of Avion's have already shown their courage. This trip will just underscore our unquestionable bravery, and will be one for the records. LOL

cheers

Iโ€™d hope you could come to Terlingua as well. The Chihuahuan desert in the spring is exceptionally beautiful - lots of wildflowers, blooming cactus and ocotillo, streams and waterfalls running. Not to be missed!
Onward!

Rasta, well said. I went looking for Cajunavion last week in NOLA. Lets hope they show up in Terlingua. Meanwhile my cabover looks like it might take until next Spring - just in time for Muley Point.

Glad to see everyone is back!
Now when and where is this Avionista Fiasco taking place?

Cajunavion...good to hear from you... The when for the Fiasco is set in jello..we are thinking sometime in the month of April...the where is in Terlingua Ranch, in the Big Bend State Park Area.
The Fiasco will begin on my property which is totally off grid,
From there we will be at the mercy of our fearless leader 67avion who will lead the caravan to Mulley Point.. and who knows where else.

Hoping you can make it....

Thanks for the information. Iโ€™ll look at your post. Right now we are hunkered down for very cold weather. If we had a few more days of relatively warm weather we could finish the Avion as well as our landscape. It it looks like they will both have to wait.
