Inquirees have made me think a bit...

and to share 2012 SPRING LOOP

the general plan... miss the tornados.... be home before the first of June

We are heading south thru Jimmy Carter country to Tallassee... and he coast... getting away from the middle America E/W interstates and the tornado alleys.

We'll be heading west and then down toward Brownsville... then follow the border to NM... North as far as rocky Mtn NP and then head east thru Nashville toward the end of May... we have never been inside the State Capital.

I'll be posting some as we go...

PS... the camperport did great in the storms, no damage that I can see... best $3500 I spent last year. I highly recommend it.

Sarah reminds me of some of the women I've met online in her size, aroma and voraciousness.

Two more things about Sarah... she is huge!

And... if a dog comes on the property that she doesn't know she will eat it. She will protect her sheep at all costs.

I was hoping that sheepcamp would comment on Sarah:

When she was 6 weeks old his dog Sarah was put with 5 of the older, gentler momma sheep. Sarah then had no contact with anyone else for a long time... she came to think of herself as a sheep. When Doug feeds the sheep... Sarah eats some of their food. (He also feeds her dog food which she eats laying down)

While we were there she went to several places around the ranch and made a single wouff sound... then went on patrol all night. A goat was carried off by a Cougar that night a few miles away... Doug told us that Sarah has never lost one of her sheep to an animal. (There are more than 50 cougars known to be in the area.)

Sarah has been inside a building 2 times in her long life... both were trips to the vet when she was hit by a car. Doug said the vets staff had to open the doors and windows... Sarah was pretty strong smelling after all those years sleeping on the manure pile.

I wish that I could tell you her breed but I'd screw it up... french sounding name.

I like a gal that contributes to her keep... and isn't she beautiful.

We are about half way through with posting the pictures... still have Bryce, Zion, Las Vegas, The Reagan Presidential Libruary, The coast highways to San Franscico, Sacramento, Napa, and Sonoma... then back to SF.

We will be on Vacation for the next 15 days or so... our cell phones will accept voice mail and we'll have some computer access.

After Mesa Verde we went back to Cortez... to restock food , fuel, and dump. We got a pm from Sheepcamp inviting us to visit... too good to pass up... maybe!

Just getting there was special.

Sarah is special

The special breed of sheep are raised for their wool... the Navaho weave their rugsfrom it.

Do you notice the weard 3 horn rams... they are indicitive of the breed

Sarah sleeps on the manure pile for warmth... she thinks she is a sheep... but in reality is the protector for all of them.

I hate to call the cliff dwellings ruins... they seem pretty advanced to me.. The sun warms the area in the winter, the overhang shades them in the summer.

The people are protected from their enemies and wild animals. They had water, farms, good pots and baskets, storage graineries and trade.
