We are on the road again after a year sidelined for doctors. They went to a convention or something, we escaped.

We left through Level Pebble (Flat Rock, AL) and have made it as far as the BassPro shop in Plattsburg, AL.

Hope to get to Mobile or even Biloxi, MS tomorrow. I was stationed in Biloxi at Kessler AFB 51 years ago.

We'll be heading west from there... california in a couple of months... home in August
We hope to see some of you over the next 5 months.

Don't tell anyone where we are:W

Started this thread at 707 nights... todays subject edit on July 24, 2009

Inquirees have made me think a bit...

and to share 2012 SPRING LOOP

the general plan... miss the tornados.... be home before the first of June

We are heading south thru Jimmy Carter country to Tallassee... and he coast... getting away from the middle America E/W interstates and the tornado alleys.

We'll be heading west and then down toward Brownsville... then follow the border to NM... North as far as rocky Mtn NP and then head east thru Nashville toward the end of May... we have never been inside the State Capital.

I'll be posting some as we go...

PS... the camperport did great in the storms, no damage that I can see... best $3500 I spent last year. I highly recommend it.

Happy 51st Chet and Janet! And what a great place to spend it! I'll never forget being there near the end of crawfish season on a thunderstorm night enjoying our drinks after a huge meal with a bunch of friends and their families. The power went out and complete darkness ensued. I opened my flip phone for a little light and others did the same and we all just continued on as if nothing really happened. Eventually power came back on. What a great scene with a lightning show all around. We hope to be back again soon, perhaps this late fall.

We are shooting to be living in our rig full time in the not too distant future, by fall at the latest so lookout, instead of some MH you'll see Lancezilla pulling in behind you guys somewhere out there on the road or at Pat's. If so we won't have to park in their lot (or god forbid the little CG just a ways past the bridge over the outlet of Lake Henderson to go to Butte La Rose ๐Ÿ™‚ ) but at our friends parents camp on the canal. I hope we finally catch up with you guys out there on the road sometime soon. If you are ever going to visit our house (so we can return the favor of staying at your place) you better make it this summer ๐Ÿ™‚

Really enjoy your travelogue!

When you read a book in a day or two.... a book started more than 3 days ago is finished... in the last week I finished Michael Connellys "Gods of Guilt", James Pattersons "Private LA" and I'm half way through Sandra Browns "Deadline"

Janet reads faster than I do... but I need far less sleep.

Today it got up to 90ยฐF in the bayou country... down to 70ยฐF now... 9:10 CST

We don't know for sure where we are going... the weather dictates...

... we hoped to watch the TN/Mich basketball game this evening but couldn't pick up the CBS TV station.

Tropical weather and lots of books will keep us parked along the waterways...

... and in the Cajun resturants.

Happy Anniversary Chet & Janet!! Hope you two have a wonderful day! :B

Thank you... Our 51st Wedding Anniversary... Celebrated down in the Bayou at Pat's Fishermans Wharf in Henderson, LA.

Janet had a very nice Filet Mignon...

I had Crawfish Bisque and 2 pounds of boiled Mud Bugs (crawfish) with corn on the cob and a potato... all spiced up with the best cajun spice ever. It took a big glass of ice water and 2 beers to keep the heat from the spice to a tolerable level.

Then, it got cold in Lake Charles last night... 51 years and cuddling (don't tell Janet, I cut back on the PlatCat vented heater a little). We'll hang here for a couple of days... more Cajun food... it is the season, and I don't want to miss it.

We agree with our friend Silversand... we have to stay below I-10 for a while to stay out of the cold... the weather looks cool and wet all the way to Brownsville.

Thanks to all for the nice comments... and I'm glad that some of you had your memories tweeked... like those caused by Janets picture of the CCC program.

Janet's my kind of girl!! Now add a baked potato just butter, side of veggies and big strawberry daiquiri tops the meal.

Wow! We're 120 miles from the Canadian border and have beautiful 50ยบ weather. Of course we have scattered rain showers every other day this week. Seriously though look up what showers mean...not what you would expect.

Did you just finish the same author you mentioned to me the other day?

Have you ever noticed...

When you find a spot to park overnight in a 2 mile section of possibilities that someone will decide to snuggle their Class C up againest your camper.

Now we look like a gypsy camp instead of a lone camper just parked.

I suppose that they think there is safety in numbers...

I don't think so... I don't know them... I'm never going to put us in harms way to protect someone I don't know... they could be the meth lab or truckers delight that we need protected from.

We are still in Lake Charkes, LA. We got a mile and a half walk in yesterday evening... finished a good book and started another.

It was 47ยฐF overnight.... with hard winds... today it's up to 67ยฐF at 10:45 AM... why do I mention this... It is snowing at home and a weather bomb is forcast for the east coast of Floriday, Ga. SC, etc... with snow... and the northeast is expecting Hurricane force winds along withtheir winter weather.

All in all... makes this area tropical.

We have seen very few RV's... most with Quebec plates. We did see truck campers heading north on two ocassions... one of them flashed his lights in return for our greetings.

I hope that all of you are planning to get out soon.

There will be a few pictures later...

Not to hijack this wonderful thread, but many of the young men in the '30s were employed by the CCC. I wonder what the participation rate would be if programs like the CCC and WPA were offered today?

Here is a certificate my dad received for "Dry Rock Construction" in Cody, Wyoming.

Sleepy and Janet - beautiful report. I felt like I was riding along with you.

I need to become bolder about being independent of campgrounds. I would like to do as you two do, but have been too timid or unimaginative. Thanks for your example.

IWe didn't finda dump station... so I asked one of the workers... I think that I must have been the first to ask....

I've hiked all of the mountains around the park... been there many times... just never thought about dumping there.

Oh! Well... I can use the maserating pump at home....
