A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Good morning everyone. Emily, our nurse in the family is still at work in the Columbia, SC hospital. She is so enjoying her work and it seems this is truly her calling, Emily is such a giving person, so loving and kind to all she meets. Right now she is on the front line at the hospital helping folks fight for their lives with this Coronavirus. Her husband Austin, our grandson is working in the pharmacy in the hospital filling the prescriptions for the patients there. Emily is in more danger than Austin as she is in direct contact with the sick. Please pray foe her. This virus is so contagious and easily spread from one person to another.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you llove them.

I feel what you are going through with family being so close to infected people. I have a niece and nephew working as CNA and Nurse and her Mother, my Sister-in-law works at the Hospital too. Another Niece (Nurse} is currently quarantined in Ohio. Prayers for yours and also for mine. I also have three nephews in Law Enforcement. Their days are tough enough, but now they are getting harder with this Virus. I pray that a vaccine is found and approved as quick as possible. God Bless you all.

Good morning everyone, I hope all is well with everyone and you and your family are safe. Our area has calmed down and things right now are settling down. Sue and I are staying home. Yesterday we finished spreading the mulch and now we can wait until we can get more to finish the job.

The fur gang is well. Suzie is wondering why we are staying home so much. I guess she will get used to us being here all the time and just take advantage of a good time to catch up on her naps. We have been told we will be quarantined until the end of April. So be it. It is what it is and we will make the best of it. I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Stay home and stay safe

Good morning everyone. Someone posted on FB. There is a DUI patrol posted at Kitchen and Hallway drive. So beware. All is okay here. WE are safe and quarantined. I did take the bicycle to the repair shop yesterday to get it repaired. Need some exercise so I guess riding the bicycle up and down the driveway will be good.

Hope everyone is well and behaving themselves. Have a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Dr. Doug and Sandy I have really been trying to behave myself on face book lately.

Dan, if you are having trouble getting meds, PM me.

Richard, I'm glad you are well and sheltering. It's hard when you have family members in health care right now. It seems like they are in real danger of contracting the coronavirus with the degree of protective equipment they are being provided. Hopefully most are young and if infected will have a mild case.

I posted in another thread that our granddaughter was exposed at work (hospital lab tech in pathology department). She's been in quarantine and got the good news that her test came back negative.

Stay safe and PLEASE do the social distancing. You are not only saving yourself, but saving the health care workers, first responders and all the other essential workers.

Thanks Dr. Doug. I should hear from our Vet today they said allow 24 hours.
She is a little better this morning. She woke up at 4:00 AM with an episode. After that she has only coughed a few times but not long as yesterday. We just got back from our walk and she did eat her breakfast. Yesterday we could not get her to eat her supper.

Well we did get out this afternoon. The bicycle had two flat tires and the tubes were bad. So we went to the bike shop and left it for new tires and a tune up. I have sinus and a runny nose because of all the pollen that's in the air. I do have a cough but that is from the sinus draining down my throat. I don't have a fever. I don't feel sick so I am confident I don't have the virus. Sue and I just got back from a walk down the street in our neighborhood. It's really nice outside this evening.

I hope all of you are well and enjoying the spring weather we are having. It would really be nice to go camping, but that will have to wait until we get the all clear signal. Okay I am going to close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good morning everyone. WE are safe and well. Staying home just like we are supposed to. Nothing is worth getting out to maybe catch the virus. Yesterday I walked down to the pond and looked at the water. It's still kind of muddy looking from all the rain. I did mow the lawn yesterday and the dust was terrible. Even after all the rain the ground is still dry. I hope everyone os well. Please stay in doors and don't venture out into the crowds. This virus thing is serious. Folks are dying from it and it spreads so easy. So stay calm and stay indoors away from people and the crowds and just may you will be safe.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Stay safe and stay indoors.

Not stir crazy yet but I have only been out of the house once since last Sunday. I have been working from home and have enough supplies for a couple of weeks if needed. I was planning on taking the motorhome for a drive in the country this weekend just to get the fluids running and to put a hour on the generator. My owners manual says to run the generator at least an hour a month with at least 50% load. I usually turn on one of the AC units when we take it some where. I haven't driven it in over two months now since my weekend camping plans at the local COE park got canceled a few weeks ago. I am really not sure if I am "allowed" to drive around with this stay at home order that went into affect yesterday. Surely me driving the motorhome by myself out in the country would not be putting myself or anyone else at risk but I don't want to get into any trouble. I'm too old to get into trouble these days!

I hope everyone is safe and getting along with their significant others while being confined to quarters!

Richard glad your CT scan did not show anything.

Watching the news everyday is very depressing. But it is really hard to avoid not watching.

Lots of sunshine yesterday was able to get some yard work done. We will have more of the same today with slightly warmer temperatures as well as Saturday.

Stay safe and Healthy.

Good morning everyone. The cat scan yesterday didn't show anything harmful. Doctor said all he saw was images of an old man with diabetes and old age having its effects, Told me to monitor my blood pressure and report back to him what my readings are. This morning I slept until 8:30am. I fell asleep watching Blue Blood and didn't wake up until 11:30. Went to bed and slept the rest of the night. Got up to pee three times during the night. Went back to bed and slept like a log.

Well are you stir crazy yet? Just watched a video sent to me from a friend about being quarantined for ten days, It was very funny. This morning I am doing well. No problems that I know of. My blood pressure was great. no temperature or runny nose. I think I will cut the grass today and walk the dogs down the street. WE had a fire last night in the fireplace. It got cold here last night. The days have been nice and warm, but the nights have been a bit on the cold side. None of the family is sick with the virus. Praise God for that Our granddaughter in law is on the front line at the hospital in Columbia. She just got her nursing degree and is working at the hospital full time. Our grandson Austin is working at the pharmacy in the same hospital. Both have been busy. Joshua is still in the army as a doctor. haven't heard from him in a long while so we don't know what is going on with him except we know he has been on call and very busy. It feels strange to have so many of our family in the medical field during this outbreak. I also have a niece who is a nurse in Augusta, Georgia working at MCG. She has been working very hard and some long hours since all of this started.

Okay I have to go for now, be careful and stay home.

I wish everyone blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.
