The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???
On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.
Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

C'mon, folks, where are you? Old Fella is still not in the top 10 in Georgia 😞 I do wonder about these challenges, though. I checked out the California chart, and the top shelter in the state is:
The Cat House on the Kings :h

I am not a great pickle lover so all the effort that went into opening the jar was strickly for Sue's benefit. Gosh I love that woman!

I don’t have many door prizes and I didn’t order any Tee shirts because of the way things were looking a few weeks back. Since the Rally was moved to Treasure Lake we picked up a few more families so that turned out for the good. To order Tee shirts you have a minimum order and until recently we didn’t have enough people to fill that order and it is too late to order now. I guess all things turn out for a reason so we will do with what we have.
All of the fur gang is doing well and Obie is during great with the last of his heart worm treatment. His coat has come back so shiny and thick, he doesn’t look like the same dog that went to Dr. Ford’s a month ago. Next Tuesday he will go to his new home in Greenville, South Carolina. I hope he has a long and joyful life in front of him.
Leaving Suzie and Hobo at home during our trip to Branson hurts me a little as I don’t like to be away from them that long. Our daughter Robin is coming to the house to stay with them and one of our neighbors is going to come down each day to let them outside for some exercise and barking lessons. Suzie has developed a habit of running to the fence barking at people passing by. When I put the shock collar on her she won’t get off the back porch, but the minute the collar comes off she goes right back to barking at people on the sidewalk. Peaches does the same thing except she is now able to jump on top of the brick fence and walk it like a circus performer walking a tight rope, too much Joint Strong I suppose.
Okay I need to get moving so Mama and the rest of the fur gang can go for their walk, talk with you later.

😛 😛 😛
(That's as close as I could come to 3 dogs :B)
Funny thing happened. I received an email message today at 2:05 that asked if I could take her June 22, since the airline didn't have any room left on June 29. When I got home tonight and checked the email, I replied that I would prefer the 6th. I called them at 8:35 (just as she was replying to the email that the 6th would be OK) and explained, and they said July 6th was fine. After the call, I checked my cell phone. There were two messages on it: one from early this afternoon asking about the 22nd, the second roughly 6:40 PM, shortly before my email reply, saying that they wouldn't be able to make the 22nd, and would the 6th be OK? I just received the confirmation on the flight reservation.
I guess this really is Karma...
