This thread was started, to cover the subject of fuel availability , not prices, etc. For many travelers, at times, the availability of fuel, is of more importance than is the price per unit.

On another forum thread, the question was asked as to how far apart the fuel stops were on the Alaska Hwy. I said about 100 miles was the most I could remember. After making that comment I decided to check and see if that was still correct. We were up to Alaska, the last trip in 2011. Here is what I found, using mostly currently listed mile posts, for reference. Current mile post and historic milepost can be over 30 miles different, on the northern end of the Alaska Hwy. Current travelers, please advise of any changes needed by PM.

A good, general source of information, on fuel prices in Canada is MJ Ervin and Associates, doing business as Kent Marketing Services, a Canadian petroleum consulting firm. Fuel prices will vary in towns, just like anywhere else, so check around.

Do all the stations carry Diesel? As you know, not all the stations in the lower 48 do, so just curious. Thank you.

We were in Alaska in 2007 and used the 'Milepost' as our guide for sightseeing and fuel stops. We never let our tanks get less than 1/2 full and had no problem.

Spent the night in Fort Nelson at the Blue Bell Inn. Gas is $5.50 gal., they charged me an extra &10.00 for paying in US currency on a $200. tank fill. Camping was $21 US. This was first time anyone up charged for using US currency but was told BC really means Bring Cash.

Know exactly how you feel....been planning this trip for over a year. Guess we just will not do as many paid tours as we would have before. Lots to see and do without all that anyway !!!

Are credit cards accepted at ALL gas stations??
Yes, all locations accepted credit cards. We travelled the Hiway three times in 2011. North in April when services were scattered but available and South in May and North in July. We too stayed at the Northern Rockies Lodge. Very expensive but they put us right on the lake and it was beautiful.

Every one is getting ME excited. even with the cost of fuel, I believe the trip will be worth every bit. Plus we are going to host a state park in the Soldonta area. Will carry a bit of extra fuel , but ya can't carry enough can you?
When we get ready to leave in The last of April I'll check here again.

I asked this morning before I left, and Johnson's Crossing will have fuel again after 1 July 2011. They are changing brands and the new signs have to go up before they can sell fuel.

For those of you going to Alaska and driving through the Yukon we have added information about the current fuel prices in Yukon communities and an interactive map of most Yukon service stations at

http://yukonlive.ca/travelyukon/servicestations.faces

Please Note:
The prices are average for the community and it might be worth to shop around to find a better deal. However, we try our best to keep prices up-to-date.

Hours of operation of service stations might be different on weekends and after the summer season.

As of 21 Jun 11, Johnson's Crossing does not have fuel. Don't know if it is a temporary thing or not.
