Best route to Myrtle Beach Pirateland CG from I 95

Hi All,

Heading to Myrtle Beach SC Pirateland CG, for first time towing 28' TT. Can anyone suggest the best route from I 95? Mapquest shows exiting in NC with lots of turns and twists. Isn't there a simpler way from I 95 to the CG?

Thanks in advance for any help.

When I go to MBTP this is the way I go...--
exit 95 S at I believe exit #13 and take 74 East
74 east to 410 SOUTH
410 SOUTH TO 701 towards Tabor City
701 south to 9 south
9 south to 31 south
for you -
Highway 31 south to the end - take 544 east to 17..
At that point , I am not sure if it is north or south of there ...
For us at MBTP - from the time we exit 95 to we get to the campground , it is about 1-1/2 hrs and 75 miles

1 year we came all the way in 501.. never again..... NEVER

This is also the way we go to North Myrtle. However we don't use 95. We run 74 out of Charlotte to 410. It is a nice easy drive, with places to stop for fuel, and food.

When we go to south Myrtle. We run thru Darlington, and Quemby, and come out on 501 just past Florence, and then hit 544

Are you far from Stanley ?

Not really. Maiden. We don't go thru there so much any more. Since the new roads were built. But that use to be the best way to Charlotte. I just wish there was a really good way around Charlotte. they put is right in the way

One of my offices is in Stanley.. I usually fly in and out overnight , but in the summer we camp at carowinds.
This year I think we are leaving Charlotte and going to Myrtle instead of Florida.. what is it , about 4-1/2 hour ride?

It seemed like every person driving that day into Myrtle Beach were on 501 at the same time...

What fordtruckguy posted is what mapquest recommends. What RoyB posted is what most of us do; including me heading to Ocean Lakes.

Its just habit now. Besides, there's something about driving the same route each time when you're going on vacation. You see familiar things and it makes it all the more exciting.

501 dumps you right into the big mix at BUS 17 and you actually end up heading NORTH on it not realizing you wanted to go SOUTH on it. You are downtown Myrtle Beach here haha... Just not a good place dragging a big trailer. The really big trailer would probably be better staying on 501 until you get to the 31 bypass road like YRUSOSLO says and heading south to the 544 road..

501 to 544 exit just out of CONWAY was just fine for my smaller trailer and my brother-in-law's bigger 5th wheel trailer. We have followed each other to LAKEWOOD many times taking that route...

Just hard to turn around being downtown when you make the wrong turn haha...

Check it all out on GOOGLE MAPS to see what we are talking about...

When we head for LAKEWOOD just south of PIRATELAND we go down I95 past South of the Border to the FLYING J Truck stop exit on SC38... Then we follow 38 which crosses US301 until it runs into US501. This way misses alot of the crowed things around South of the Border and Dillon on the SC side.

US501 will take you through CONWAY and then look for SC 544 which will have a BIG OVERHEAD sign for LAKELAND RESORT. Turn right on 544 and go past US17 South of Myrtle Beach to BUS US17 where you will turn left and should then see PIRATELAND on your right.

If you miss the SC544 exit US501 will take you into MYRTLE BEACH but puts you in the mix of things NORTH of where you are wanting to go... US501 will take you all the way to BUS US17 and you can turn South on it and start looking for PIRATELAND. Was much easier for us to take the SC544 exit out of CONWAY and follow the big signs to LAKEWOOD.

LAKEWOOD RESORT has big signs along the roads to it so good to look for those along the way...

Have never camped at PIRATELAND but get to hear all of the kids having a great time there. All of the camp spots are situated around small lakes and that keeps the Pirate thing very much alive for the kids...

I have a sister that lives on LAKEWOOD and we all get together there with other family members around the SEP/OCT time frame each year...

Hope I got all the road numbers ok - mark it out on your map to be sure...

Enjoy your stay there...
