So I will be heading out in about a week for a surprise birthday party for my sister in Phoenix. Leaving out of Boise and heading to Redding CA to see a friend and then to Phoenix. I don't have to be in Phoenix until Oct. 25th so I'll have about 3 weeks and I'm looking for suggestions on places to see, places to stay and good routes from Redding to Phoenix. I have already received great suggestions on the route from Boise to Redding. Water and electric would be preferred but elec. only would work for a few days as long as I can get potable water.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I just went down Hwy 395 in CA and had a great time. From Redding, you can take 44 over to Susanville, then get on 395. Visit Lassen Nat'l Park on the way.

On 395....from Carson City we did a day trip to Lake Tahoe. Further south there's Mono Lake, the east entrance to Yosemite, explore June Lake Loop, Mammoth Lakes, Devil's Postpile. Then there's Convict Lake, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Alabama Hills, Mt. Whitney portal. We stayed at Bishop RV Park (at the fairgrounds) and Boulder Creek RV Park near Lone Pine because we needed hookups. There are several non-hookup campgrounds just off 395.

When you reach Barstow, CA you can take I-40 east to AZ 95 south along the Colorado River. A couple State Parks and county park to stay at along there. Continue south to I-10 then into Phoenix.

This is just one way to go. Of course there are others.

thank you everyone, this is a great start, keep 'em comin'

I would take I-84 from Boise to Portland, there are a number of choices from there. The route through Burns and Lakeview is somewhat uninspiring and the grades on 299 in CA are nothing less than daunting. Of course, if you like adventure go for it.
