Discussion on use of various electronic Travel Planners

Hi Folks: This is the first time reading this site for me. I used the CAA/AAA Trip Planner two years ago to plan 12,000 km trip from Toronto to east coast through Labrador City and Goose Bay to North Sidney NS. I would very much like to hear who has used what ePlanner and why and would they use it again. One of the benefits of using the CAA/AAA online trip planner is that it is linked to their tour book and as you virtual travel a road the screen high-lights all the information in the area. I found this very useful for planning possible routes. It was also possible to store these routes and print them. Look forward to hearing other member experiences. Cheers christl

I used to use AAA/CAA and do up all the triptiks and that was ok until the second day. AAA now runs from Google and while that isn't all bad, the operation scale makes it so it does not tell you about interesting things that are more than a very few miles off their track. It also does tell you about all of the little town events along the track without regard as to if you might not be near there then. Didn't you want to know about the huckleberry festival, Miss Hay Bale Day and the Santa Clause parade?

We now run a stand alone planning program that does a lot. If we have to change something, no biggy. If we can't find wire, who cares?

And when we run it underway, the navigator had a BIG chart (map) with a "You are Here" meatball.

I also use RoadTrippers. I've used it for a few trips and seems to work well.

Never tried the one you mentioned.

I have used the RoadTrippers app. One can get it for computer/tablet or smart phone.

It does not really plan my route, but does show whatever is along the route I choose.

I usually set it for food/restaurants as I love trying different cuisines.

But one can look for all sorts of different items. Sights to see, local interest items, museums, cultural, and of course, my food.
