We will be driving from Southern CA to Yellowstone in July. Can you please suggest good RV parks along the way? We are interested in good parks near the 15 highway in the following cities (our overnight stops)

St George, Utah
Bryce Canyon National Park
Salt Lake City, UT
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Thanks in advance.

I live in St George and I second the suggestion of Cedar City KOA, usually at least 10 degrees cooler up there.

The Leeds KOA overlooks I-15, so noise may be an issue. Sand Hollow State Park is a handful of miles off I-15, so quieter but virtually no shade (but does have nice FHU sites).

Mesquite is 30+ minutes closer to you, but always 5+ degrees hotter than St George.

Hi Calicajun,

We have just returned from Yellowstone after a week. We have 3 young children so we wanted to limit our driving time to 5-8 hours a day .
We visited Zion National Park, Mormon Temple, Idaho Falls along the way. The roads to Yellowstone are in good condition (except some roads inside the park which are under construction).

You should make reservations for your campgrounds in advance unless you don't mind staying at truck stops or gas station. We slept at Flying J one night because we couldn't find a camp ground.

Gas, propane and water are available at various locations in the park.
If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me.

You're going to one of the most beautiful places on earth, and my favorite place of all time. We can't travel much ourselves anymore, but thinking back we stopped in Las Vegas (Ugh), Salt Lake City (Pony Express is fine for a day or two), and then, then, Godalmighty, to the grandest place I ever saw. Driving into West Yellowstone (which has Grizzly RV park, the best park we ever stayed at(IMHO; my wife disagrees a little-she likes Chula Vista in So Cal) is not as impressive as when, after parking your rig, unhooking the dingy and driving into the park (5 minutes away) you begin to see it. It gets better and better, until just past the 8 mile bridge, you come around a curve and see a valley like no other. Love, love, love those memories. Godspeed to you, friend.

I was just down in SW Utah last month. For the St. George area, a nice park is Leeds RV Park & Motel about 14 miles up I-15 in a little town called Leeds (of course).

For Bryce, you're pretty far from I-15, about 50 miles or so. I stayed at the Ruby's Inn campground which is just a mile or so from the park entrance.

When I'm in The Grand Tetons, I always stay at Colter Bay RV Park which is right in the middle of the park and next to Jackson Lake.

All of those have full hookups.

Thank you. We reserve 1 night in the park at the Grant campground. Bryce and Grant Teton are the "wish list" on visit on the way home.

Bryce or Grant Teton will not be near I-5. Both parks have campgrounds - dry camping and the Tetons has one full hookup called Colter Bay RV. I'd highly recommend you stay in the parks, if possible, for the best experiences and less driving.

Also, you stated the above will be overnight stops. You really need to spend more time in national parks!

SLC KOA works well - easy to reach from the interstates, pretty shady (important in mid-summer, especially this year), all the amenities you need for an overnight or longer stay. The more we stay there, the more we like it. I strongly suggest reservations; it's a very busy and popular park.

When we head up to Yellowstone (Three trips...so far) Here are our stops.

1. Cedar City UT....KOA....get a pull through, gas up in the morning at the Pilot.
2. Logan UT. Traveland RV Park, clean pull throughs
3. Grand Tetons Colter Bay RV Park.
Then through the South Entrance of Yellowstone to West Yellowstone and Grizzly RV Par.

Enjoy....Love Yellowstone.

Returning home we overnighted at Century RV Park in Ogden. Pull through FHU and gas on the same exit.
