That's exactly what I said. They're not employees.

The traffic disruptions afect the poor more than anyone else, how many that live in the outlying towns and travell to work are not able to reach the job in time or not at all and are either docked the day or fired because of this dumb protests that the government does not even care, the politicos have access to all the fuel they want, they are the politicos.

Those paqueteros at the grocery store are not employees. It is important to make that clear.

Secondly, here is an interview with Miguel Messmacher, the Assistant Secretary of Energy and SCHP. Unfortunately, it is in Spanish and I can't find the script to translate it. This comes straight from the horse's mouth.

He states at 4:20 minutes, that as of February 18th, the price will fluctuate on a 24 hour basis depending on the peso and the price of petroleum. He goes on to say that the price on February 18th could go up or down depending on the above.

I'll continue to look for a transcript. Very very good if you undertand Spanish or know someone who can do a translation.

Disclaimer: not trying to support anything here just providing facts instead of rumor which have fueled (no pun intended) frivolous and useless blockades urging people not to purchase gas or pay their taxes.

Attendants are employees of the franchise owner and receive a salary plus tips. Some despachadores (attendants) receive as little as 685 pesos a week but do receive benefits provided by the law.

I can tell you from personal experience that IMSS sends inspectors to businesses on a regular basis to check. If they are working for a company big or small and do not receive the benefits (SS payments, SS medical, Infonavit, etc.) the owner will be fined big time.

We were fined more than 100,000 pesos in 1996 for thinking our workers had benefits paid for by the contractor and turns out they didn't. We were able to reduce the fine by visiting the IMSS office and making monthly payments for a year. Shame on us for being so naive. Even if you pay off the inspector to reduce the fines you still have to register everyone. They take names 🙂

Tips are a big part of their income though.

In the article I read that I can't find now they said the attendants are not happy because they work for tips - their only pay is tips - and with rising prices people are angry and are not tipping.

long lineups around San Luis Potosi & Matehuala at statiosn thta have gas. Diesel is no problem but you can wait 30 minutes for an attendant to come over. I am topping up at the first opon station when I hit 3/4 tank.

Paid $3.26/gal (US equivalent) yesterday in Kino for diesel. Long line by the time they opened at 3 PM. Just saw it's $2.33 in Tucson. Oh well, the price one pays to live in paradise!

I read an article last night that said the stations have fuel but are sitting on it until the prices go up so they can profit from the increase. Sorry - I can't find that article this morning.

Fresh produce and meats vary depending on season and seasonal conditions.

Predial/Property tax hovers at .06% (you can't beat that)
Car Tags and Taxes
Our vehicles:
travel trailer 409 pesos
VW Pointer 1461 pesos tags and tenencia (annual downward adjustment tax)
SUV 877 pesos
Full coverage insurance for all three vehicles including U.S. 17,000 pesos
Electric max allowed usage 765 pesos per month
4/45 kilo cylinders of LP per year 2200 pesos
Groceries (including liquor/wine) 800 pesos per week average for 2017
Telephone/Internet/Dish 540 pesos per month

With the exception of gasoline, we have seen little to no increase in prices. Most of what we hear every year at this time is the same old socialist line about how the government is out to screw everyone. Believe what you will.

Things are definitely changing and it all looks for the better in the long run. I mean really, what other country gives you a 20% discount on all your taxes if you pay them by the end of February?

You want to talk bad, think about Venezuela. We could have gone down that road but Mexico made a turn over 20 years ago. Amen to that.

P.S. Airline prices are still cheaper in Mexico than the U.S. I flew three weeks ago to Houston from Monterrey for $169 r/t including open bar and snacks. Best price from McAllen was $362. MTY to LAX $209. All the American airlines have extremely high prices and are not passing on the fuel savings to customers.
