Hello RV travel wizards

I am seeking advice and opinions regarding the need for reservations (no pun intended) and definitive scheduling to tour the areas leaving Grand Canyon - towards Arizona, Southern Utah, New Mexico with so much to see in and around the Navajo Nation - this would be first of April. I am a photographer and we are traveling in a 41' A class towing a 4 door Jeep with dogs.

Thanks again - you guys have been super so far planning this 6 week journey from South Florida to Vegas/Grand Canyon...now to work on the return portions.

Yes April and the winds were unrelenting - SO glad we were in the DP but even so driving was slow. It gave us more time to enjoy the beauty and vastness.

Want a little Beauty try - Colorado in September - October - Aspen and trails to Die for.

Stan Parker's Photo Album

Stan, just makes it so easy - going somewhere just click on the location and see what you might see, if you are lucky.

Just a couple of great Photo's to go with Jon's and hopefully Your's, soon.

So glad to hear back from someone who has a great experience.

Check back in again soon, with your photo's.

Just wanted to send an update - many thanks to all who sent tips and advise to me on this forum - we spent 6 glorious weeks on the road and have the most amazing photo filled adventure - despite high winds, dust storms, extreme allergy and heat - we enjoyed everything! Just had to keep an open mind, eyes on the road, take it slow and relax! The only thing we would do differently is take longer so we werent so rushed. You guys are amazing - I am about to begin a new thread on another adventure so I look forward to reading all of your tips. I would upload photos to show you how much fun we had but the only option is to link to URL and mine are on my external drive or in the cloud...take my word that I was able to shoot some of the best images of my life on this fabulous westward journey thanks to many of your tips!

As a photographer, you will appreciate taking the photo tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon rather than the standard one. You have more time & more opportunities to shoot the canyon without others in the picture. Some general information & more photos.

Remember ... the North Rim is not open until May 15th. The weather can be a problem at higher elevations.

April weather could be a challenge especially since elevation plays a strong role in how the weather impacts travel. Yes, you will see snow on the mountain tops but it can also reach further down to lower elevations. We love all that area but have been traveling mostly in the fall--also gives us a chance to see some aspens change color. Have a great trip!

Hoping you are including - Canyon de Chelly - Monument Valley - Page - Antelope Canyon - Mesa Verde - Chaco Canyon - Hovenweep - Anasazi Heritage Center near Dolores - These should be included at some time during your trip. So much to see ---- so little time...........

IMHO, the only time you will need reservations is if there is a rally or something going on that calls in many people - Kids are still in school so should not be a problem - Weather can and will be all over the chart so just be prepared for quick changes in Temperatures as you drive up and down in the areas.

Best of Luck,

April should be no problem sans reservations. You may get a late snowstorm in the area mid April

X2, should be easy at that time of year. Just remember you are on the Rez so be careful of speeds and watch for people and animals walking on the roadway. A lot to see there so enjoy. Also, no weapons allowed so be cautious in that regard.
