Houston to New York (New Jersey)

Okay, I'm dragging our trailer to NY this summer with the family and I'm looking for any tips or advice that will help me. I'v been to DC and DisnyWorld with it with no issues. Just more toll-roads and tunnels up there. Looking for the simplest route. We are staying @ Liberty Harbor RV. I know it's just a parking lot, but can't beat the location.
We don't have any reservations for the trip up. Just plan on calling around when we get tired. Taking 3 nights to get up and go through Pittsburg and Chicago on our way back. 4 night in NJ.

It's a full 2 week vacation for us, NYC is only 4 days of it. I almost enjoy the journey more than the destination(s).

I'd probably spend time in Philly before Pittsburgh, but that's just me. Kennywood (south of Pittsburgh) is a very nice amusement park if that sort of thing is to your liking.

If you don't have an EZPass transponder, getting one will make navigating the toll roads and bridges that much easier (and usually cheaper).

We are Steelers fans and have never been to Pittsburgh....so here we go....Just spending 2 nights there then moving on to Chicago..

I live in NJ and the RGV of TX. Used many routes. including the one from brooks379. I did not care for that one because it goes thru a much more populated area with more cities. I agree the hills on I-81 can be a pain but I still prefer that route.

My favorite route is US 59 / TX 43 / I-20 / I-59 / I-24 / I-75 / I-40 /I-81 / I-78

Any way you choose as long as you wind up on I81/I78. There is a toll bridge just a few miles before Liberty Harbor on I78 but no others on I40 or I81. We're going up for the 4th time in mid-June but it's just a 230 mile hop for us. Enjoy NYC.

The easiest and and the route with the least amount of hills is
59 I 30E I 40 E I55N I 57N I70E I 270 N I 71N I 76E I 80E Might be a little longer but a lot less crazy traffic and no tolls. I HATE I 40 and I 81 !! Up hills, down hills, a ton of semis trying to drag up the hills and fly down them not to mention wall to wall cars. Some times you can't even get a break to get into the passing lane. I have driven up to NYC from Houston and the west coast steady for many years and have driven every route there is up to NJ/NYC . There are many ways to go, that one was always the easiest .
The closer you get to the east coast the more crazy traffic you get into. What ever you do don't go up I 95 or you will hit DC, Baltimore and all that mess from Delaware up through NJ.
