SAT/Aduana has issued new Duty Free limits for people entering Mexico by air and by land. The new year round limits are $500 US dollars per person entering Mexico by air, and $300 US dollars per person by land. As before, personal items (clothing etc) are exempted from the $300/$500 limits.

Daveed: The last I read was that the franquicia is $250 when you enter in a vehicle and $500 on an airplane? Has that changed?

The only instance I have heard of where a deposit was not credited is when there was a problem surrendering the TIP, and the tourist was not issued a receipt for surrender of TIP (proof of exiting Mexico). Not getting a refund of deposit moneys is a red flag.

BUT BUT BUT

There are lots and lots and lots and lots of cases in which the computer would not allow an entrant. No permit. The only thing that saved the day was a readable valid exit permit for the year in question. Do they still print the exit receipt on thermal paper, the same******as dispensed at an ATM or grocery store? If yes, the receipt WILL FADE TO NOTHING over time, even in a glove compartment. Make laser copies of the document both sides. Keep the original because on the reverse is that stupid pale green emblem of Banjercito. When such a glitch occurs, Banjercito will deny entry. They will direct the motorist to ADUANA, another office. The Aduanero will review the documents, then telephone Banjercito or walk with you to the window and your new permit will have his authorization number on it. Many people need to do this every single re-entry from years past. DO NOT LOSE ANY LASER COPIES RECEIPTS.

Also ADUANA raised the limit of value of imported goods to 500 Dollars in many cases. This is EACH person, and does not mean or include the allowance of baggage and personal items. This is a substantial increase. Many items remain PROHIBITED.

We crossed at Sonoyta/Lukeville on April 2, and our deposit was credited to my card on April 3. Aduana is at Pitiquito, 99 miles from the border, and we turned in our FMMs and had our pasports stamped at San Emetireo (sp) the old stop, which is 27 km from Sonoyta.

What was the elapsed time between surrender of the Hologram and reinstatement of funds to your account in WORKING days? Weekends don't count.

Lew, take your PROOF of exiting Mexico (Cancellation of TIP from Aduana) and make several Laser Copies front and rear. Make certain the writing shows up clear. Then take a copy to a notary public and have it notarized.

You are being set up to be denied entry back into Mexico if your deposit is not being returned. It is a trip-hammer database effect that if a deposit is not returned, Aduana automatically has you banned from getting a subsequent TIP.

Still no deposit back. I croossed into Mexico at Eagles Pass. I guess I will have to attempt to query by phone. Or perhaps I will wait until I get to Halifax and go to the consulate. I am going there anyway to apply for permanent residency.
