I-20 through Atlanta

Hi all,
Will be headed westbound on I-20 tomorrow through Atlanta. Would it be wise to take 285 to the south of the city instead of going straight through? We'll be going through there about 11:00 AM and towing a 37' 5VER. Thanks

Thanksto all. We went straight through I-20 in Atlanta, it was smooth sailing 60-65 MPH the whole way. Birmingham was similar. Although we took the bypass there was hardly any trucks or traffic. We hit Atlanta around noon and Birmingham about 1:30 with the time change.

We went thru Atlanta and vowed never again. Someone already mentioned the curvy road. IMHO there is not 100 years of straight road in the city and I don't like riding in the second lane from the right because we don't travel as fast as the natives.
Let us know how you did.

Straight through. I always stay in the second lane from the left and it works well. I285 around Atlanta will be full of trucks since they can't go straight through.

after you get inside the loop and past the capital, the road gets a little crooked (not really crooked, but it is hard to see around some of the curves due to the wall in the median) Keep your speed down and don't try to run with some of those demons out there. After Fulton Industrial and the west side of the loop and 6 flags you are good to the Alabama line

The big problem I always ran into using the by-pass routes around Atlanta was the lanes are constantly disappearing on you making you always having to blend into the right lane..

Stay on 1-20, 285 will be more of an issue than its worth. Good luck and keep it in the middle lane if possible through Atlanta.

Straight through on I-20 would be my route.
