I-75 closed in TN

I-75 closed both directions until 3/24

Please read to the bottom, which gives the exact location of the detour. The detour roads are narrow rural roads not suited to big rigs. Alternative routes suggested.

We have taken our TT on that route many times to our cabin both ways. You can probably do it but there are quite a few tight turns, one blind tight railroad underpass and one long steep grade. Not very wide in many places. Its only about 20 miles but I would be very careful we have seen some big trucks on that route so it can be done I my opinion.

I'll be heading home to Cincinnati from Perry, GA on the 21st, so will be having to use the NB detour route. I'm 37' and towing. Is the NB detour using US 25W suitable for a MH if the truckers are avoiding it?

Just went through South on Friday and North on Saturday. South is open was smooth sailing. You can see that North is under about 15' of rock as they are still blasting the hill and peeling it back so it doesn't happen again.

We were in a car and took the marked north detour with zero back ups. Trucks and trailers are diverted a little further but I talked to relatives in the area and they said most big trucks are avoiding the area completely so the marked detour is not bad. From what I could see there were very few big rigs running the detour.

Good News... As reported last night on TDOT, "I-75 South Reopens to Traffic Following Rockslide in Campbell County" - See more at:http://www.tn.gov/tdot/news/38148

NB schedule still remains on or before March 24, but at least getting through there from the North doesn't entail a detour around the rock slide area anymore.

He must have made a typo. It's 25 not 35

TDOT announced southbound lanes will open at 9 p.m. Wednesday 3/9/16.

TDOT WESITE:
**UPDATE** on the Campbell County Rockslide: Both lanes on I-75 South will reopen tonight (Wednesday 3/9/16) at 9 p.m.

I-75 North remains closed. One lane to open in that direction on or before March 24.

Total project completion on or before April 15.

I would think so since that is the only dual lane road I know of in that area.

And if you take it, take advantage of the detour and stop in at Cumberland Gap NP. they have a nice campground with a few electric sites, clean showers, and then stay an extra day to take a cave tour. When we took the tour, there was two of us and a group of 10 signed up. the group didn't show up so we had 3 rangers and just the two of us on the tour.

The suggestion to take 35 East was a good alternative. 35 East out of Corbin Kentucky is a four-lane road all the way down to 81. The roads are smooth passable and in really great shape. When we are heading back North from South Carolina we will be taking the same route going home back to Indiana. I totally agree Interstate 65 is a horrible Road and we avoided at all costs. So I suggested above take 35 East out of Corbin Kentucky and you'll have a very enjoyable route it's also very scenic.

Just a quick update on the I-75 closure. Reports currently are that SB is planned to open on March 17, with NB hoping to open a week later.

Well, we made it to the Best Western Motel at Barbourville, KY. Heading South out of Cincinnati on I-75 followed the advise to take 35 East. The Southbound I-75 traffic is detouring all trucks down 35 East. Car traffic is being routed farther South.

Actually, 35 East was a good choice for us, because Barbourville is almost exactly half way to Baker Creek State Park in SC.

35 East is not a bad road at all. It is 4 lane divided, but goes through towns and such, has stop lights, but very easy driving, even with all the semi's on the road. Taking it easy and just going with the flow of traffic.

The motel management said since the detour started, they've had massive amounts of traffic through here. I can't imagine what the auto detour bypass would have been like dragging a 35 foot trailer!

The motel is nice! But the road noise is very apparent. You hear ever truck that passes. Still, it's a nice motel, nice people, and has WIFI, which I'm connected to right now.

I don't know if we are out of the Northern Freeze zone yet or not, but didn't want to run the risk of de-winterizing until I know were are safe. So, tomorrow at the State Park, this will be the first choir on my list.

So, all the suggestions above about 35 East are correct! I imagine going North Bound on I-75 this will be the best return for us too next week-end. We may even return to this same motel a week from today! (who knows).

About Interstate roads... Indiana still sucks! Took Highway 9 out of Pendleton, Indiana ... nice road. Smooth and nice for a 2 lane road. Then hit I-74 toward Cincinnatti. OH MY! Newly re-paved with fresh black top! They've already torn it up cutting section out and pouring with concrete, hard bump after hard bump after hard bump. Last year, this time, it was smooth as a new born baby butt! Now... dang!

Got on I-75 South of the Ohio River, and SMOOOOOOOTH! all the way through Kentucky! Why in the world does Indiana have to mess up their newly paved roads and create bucking horses for everyone! Going back, we may find an alternate way once in Indiana. There are many variations on secondary highways I can take to get home without taking I-74. It's a sad, sad, sad day when the country road, that's barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other in opposite directions is smoother than a multi billion dollar interstate! It just don't don't make any sense at all!

But ... the East 35 Kentucky bypass is a very good alternate ... if you don't mind the big trucks!

I'd really like to thank Coolmom42 for post this originally and TNGW1500SE for recommending East 35! Without this information, I think I would have been really jammed up following the car detour route! I very seldom follow truck routes.

One north bound lane should open one week after the south bound lanes do.

The mountain is still sliding and it was determined to remove a lot of the hills side to the tune of 81,000 cubic yards. That is the equivalent of 4,000 large dump truck loads.
