I65 around Louisville-suggestions?

We are leaving for Topsail on 9/11. Anyone have any insights on I65 around Louisville? I understand we can take the bypass around-just want to make sure we make the proper decision. Any other issues on I65 between Indianapolis and Montgomery?

You could avoid all that by picking up the new I69 at hyw 231 south of Bloomfield. You could take 37 to Bloomington then hyw 45 which will pick up 69. There is very little traffic until you get on I24 to Nashville. Got some stoplights to deal with in Henderson but you will be ready for break by then most likely. There are very few places to stop on the new 69 and no rest areas.

Pretty sure its still 2 lane but there was talk about making it a 4 lane and to use as a hurricane route if needed but I think its still just 2 lane but lots of room to be passed if needed.

I think I always stopped for fuel just after getting on to 331 and did not need fuel the rest of the way. You know I cant remember where we stopped to get fuel but there are a few towns you go through with areas to park sorry I just dont recall which ones we stopped at but I had no issues at the places we picked. Have fun and sorry I cant recall the spots. We like Gulf Sate Park a lot and go there more now but we still like Topsail.

We should be hitting it on a Friday 11am-1pm going and probably around the same time on a Saturday returning.

Kid2Texas, we have taken that route in our car before to go to Destin. Curious if there are decent places to stop with our rig for fuel/lunch on 331.

We drive straight through during non rush hour when we are going either direction. We have been that way several times including a couple weeks ago northbound. No delay or problems at all. The construction zone is not that long.

If your going to Topsail, I always go 65 south of course but then I get on 331 south out of Montgomery, it takes you straight down till it ends and then you turn right on to 98 and Topsail is down on your left about a mile or so, 331 is a good road with fuel stops and places to eat, I go that way every time. Have fun..

X2 what bus driver said. if you are already on 65 coming south the detour will be way out of the way, the bridge is the only slow up, stay in the middle or left lane and you will be ok, the right lane has to exit to i-71 and i-64 and it backs up.

What time of day? Alter the am rush about 9:15 or before 3:45 pm stay on 65 , just read the signs take your time you will be fine

The I65 Bridge across the Ohio is under construction and is a total mess. Best bet is to take I264 West to I64 and cross into Indiana that way.
