Immigration crack down

I have been getting a lot of reports of people being stopped on the street and being asked for thir passport, FMM or resident card. A few cases of people being held for up to 3 days if they dont have it woith them. I have also heard pèople are being denied a 180 day FMM unless they cna show reservations for that period) Not any RV´s yet just fly ins). The US State department has issued a notice about the first problem.

I am wondering if this may have something to do with all the refugees trying to enter the US, and US pressure on Mexico.

This might solve part of the puzzle. It was never a requirement before.

Being asked for your visa or passport is SOP. This nutcase is making mountains out of mole hills.

I tried searching for more information on this crackdown.

Just a generic statement to have your paperwork in order...no indication of unusual enforcement activity.

Of course, I don't take state department messages at face value as they tend to be politically driven as much or more so than factually driven.

I have not heard of anyone in Sonora having that problem. I would take the warning from the state dept. as fact. But never trust some wierdo on you tube. His videos are a business and creating controversies enhances his income. His handle and t says it all. Would be nice to hear from someone in Maz and PV.

Considering Ernie lives in Mexico, I would pay attention to that video.

I have been asked for my visa at the Army checkpoint north of Hermosillo. That is in Sonora.

You need to separate the visa immigrants and the migrants that do not have a visa, so yes I can see if this is happening but I think that this is more of a mordida ploy, so lets take this with a grain of salt until there is more verifiable info, remember that there are two sides to every story.

OK, here is what I posted on Zihuatanejo.net, along with the link that started the discussion:

I saw this exact same video with the same guy, the same script, but filmed in a different location-by the ocean. That was early this year. Same story, same guy.

I am on the road a lot. There are INM checkpoints around the country. They pull over most buses and collectivos for inspection. I have gotten pulled over twice in the last couple of months by INM and got checked.

Most of the time the INM officers have their noses buried in their phones.

Tequilla, do you still have residency or are you coming into Mexico as a tourist?

There was a Youtube video posted several months ago and then redone with exactly the same script that was released again very recently. I don't have easy access to the link.

A lot of discussion has been done on the Guerrero message boards, and it is not happening here.

Tequila, can you post a link to the US State Department notice? I just looked and can't find anything.

You are "getting a lot of reports" from whom?
Stopped on the street where? Being held by whom?
Please be specific.
