Q-Tips And Hot Water

  • Water must be boiling hot to work
  • Q-Tips must be cotton not foam
  • Heat a cup of water to boiling
  • Set on table
  • Dip Q-tip in the water then rapidly apply q-tip to no-see-ump bump
  • Wait ten seconds
  • Did it take the itch away?
  • If not apply second time
  • Water must be kept above 200F for this to work
  • Reheat water if necessary
  • Treat all bites
  • Yes the dab of hot water will sting a little but it's just for a moment
  • More is not better
  • The size of the Q tip cotton limits the treatment to a safe level
  • Does not scar or mark skin
  • This treatment works. Flat out. Once the itch is gone it does not return
  • Even 10% lidocaine in comparison seemed to work .000001% as well
  • No medication can compare to how well this works
  • And it's damned near free

I have these through Amazon,$12.22 THERAPIK

Uses 9 volt battery. Works perfectly, and the ONLY thing that works for me. I'm certain the boiling water and Q tip would as well, but I can't keep that in my handbag.

To keep mosquitos away plant lavander in the garden, specially by the windows and near the doors, mosquitoes do not like the smell, and lavander oil rubbed on you or the clothes will also help.

We have both seen them go through wetsuit booties, more than once. NASTY critters!

Gets foot and ankle thumped hard all the time. One ray was captured after a hard ka-whack 450 mm across. Booties are the only prevention.

Sounds like a great item for mosquitoes, but the price makes me think seriously about not doing it.

Too bad they don't yet make one for sting rays!

Hojas de manta raya...

Grows wild on the Pacific coast in places. Ask a resident to show you what it looks like.

Steep a handfull in the soak bucket. Afterwhich make a poultice and clamp it against the wound.

Stingray slime contains bacteria so allow the wound to bleed for a few minutes. Wipe around not near the wound with alcohol. Don't be surprised if the wounded gets a little ill after getting poked.

The old saw about shuffling in the sand to allow the critter to escape is not 100% true. Some rays will flail even if they are merely bumped into. Jabbing the water ahead of you with a bamboo wading stick always works. Jesus and I clear a 10' x 30' area for the girls to play in and delineate the area with rocks on shore. A ray chased away stays away for several hours at the minimum.

Internally.

A sting ray hit is extremely painful, although the hot water does help, so does Tequila. We've been told that adding sea grape leaves to the hot water helps. We have done that-it certainly didn't make it worse!

Haven't seen labels "medicinal" on Tequila, though I'm not a connoisseur so could be wrong.

Applied internally or topically?

With a sting ray hit, don't forget the medicinal Tequila. It really helps too!

I am amazed something so stupidly simple remains virtually unknown.

Not talked about on Rv.net doesn't mean unknown 🙂
Locals in Mexico mostly don't care and/or don't have time to treat the bites while they are trying hard to make their living.

To think of it, this is similar to treating sting ray "bites" - put your feet in a hot water, the hottest you can tolerate.

Vinegar works great to relieve insect bies and stops itching immediately. Have been using it for years.

Get a banana. Eat the banana and use the inside of the peel to rub the affected area. Itch goes away. Works with insect bites, poison ivy/oak itches also.

Another method to get rid of the itch is to use a hair dryer and using high heat, blow on the affected areas

Have tried this. It is only temporary relief.
