Chances are this post will be removed. What does it have to do with Mexico. Nothing. This is about those who are afraid to go to Mexico – or much of anywhere else. We do not know where this fear comes from but it has been mentioned on this forum that some people might consider living in bomb shelters on the chance they might be protected from all things they fear. Here is a company and a place that plays to all those who live in fear. You can now take your RV and hide underground. Many years ago as a trucker I delivered goods to either this place or a place just like it nearby. It is quite an amazing place and I drove a full size semi quite a distance in there. So for those who are afraid to go to Mexico – or much of anywhere – here is a place for you to feel safe.

People take a chance and travel to Mexico because it is cheap! I do not know how you can ignore the State Department Warnings. How about that TRUE STORY of a year or two ago where a regular Anglo family w/children were kidnapped driven to the hills and escaped only with the clothes on their back when the bad guys, cartel, whatever they were took their beautiful late model pickup truck? Why is it that everyone gets so upset, and obviously 'brave' behind their keyboards? I thought the OP was pretty funny. I had read the article before and thought someone would have to be pretty scared to want to buy into that because that was a lot of money per linear ft.
I enjoy reading on RV.net. I've learned a lot and enjoy hearing about all the beautiful places you go and the things you learn, good and bad. I will make an informed choice by research, if I want to go or not. I also am not offended when someone says "been there and wasn't impressed" or 'people that don't go to Mexico are afraid'(my words)doesn't bother me. Just be nice, there's no need to insult our country or anyone else's for that matter.
I mean no disrespect by the following......I do not consider someone that has no fears to be brave. For me a better word might be carefree or careless? Some fear can be healthy, it can be what keeps you alive! It's all about how you deal with it, paralyzing you is bad.
Crime does happen everywhere! As long as you consider the risks, and you are still good to go, then have fun! Please just don't be blind with denial. I know the media isn't 'perfect' but it is not all lies either. It is not just drug cartels killing drug cartels, and if it is I don't want to see anyone killed by a stray bullet. There are places to avoid in all countries, so instead of being indignant about be honest and tell us what you liked and didn't like, where to go, where to avoid, and which route to get there is the safest.

I suspect most who come here and tell us its too dangerous or they have not seen all of the good old USA yet, actually want to try going there but are paranoid. Join an organized caravan if you are wary. I suspect you will go in future years on your own once you do.

The big dangers of Mexico for RVers are Topes, low trees & arches, & time share salesmen, not drug cartels.

I am not sure what the "case" is??

I will try to relate a case - one among thousands - I personally witnessed. Watching TV one night the reporter told us on network TV for all the world that a woman just came up to her and told her there was cancer in every house in the nearby neighborhood. I lived in that neighborhood and knew most of the people there. I knew of no one with cancer and never thereafter heard of anyone with cancer. But the reporter told the world what a woman came up and told her. There was no effort of any kind to verify any part of the story or the credibility of the woman who told the reporter this misinformation. Day after day with regularity we see news reports discredited as more and more misinformation is put out by the media and the internet. But if I tell anyone I lived in that neighborhood and know there was not one single person with cancer the news report is going to trump my presentation of the facts every time. Interesting. NOTE - nothing to do with Mexico.

This thread has become hilarious. I started it because I thought the idea that someone was selling underground resort property for sheltering from the apocalypse was pretty funny - and that anyone would buy one of these properties even funnier. But I guess these things make some people happy. The discussion has taken on some sort of life of its own - as I expected - but in directions I did not expect. It just gets goofier and goofier. I hope other readers get a kick out of all this too.

We used to live on an island called Vieques off the east coast of Puerto Rico - part of the US. Used as a Navy range for many years. Many protests. Many lies. Years of "news reports" and in my opinion - having lived there and seen exactly what was going on and having a great deal of knowledge about the whole situation - I have to say that about 95% of what was reported by the news was totally false information. Total lies. I hope that is clear. So we are down in Mexico and we are in a place and then there is a "news report" that says this or that happened in that place - and we know since we were there that what was reported was false information. Should we agree with the reporter or should we say that we were there and what we experienced was nothing remotely like the "news report"? I try to find truth and report it as such. I find today's news media to be totally lacking in any degree of integrity of any kind. Choose to believe them? Almost never.

News reports that are posted that the pro Mexico forum members immediately jump in to discredit. Please find me one thread where a forum member responsibly posted a 'travel alert' that didn't turn into the pro Mexico members claiming they KNOW the alert isn't true?

This IS a forum for information on RV'ing to Mexico and South America. I personally WANT to know of these instances and WHERE they have occurred, but each and every thread goes south the minute someone posts a news report alerting travel to a certain area because pro Mexico RV'ers start slamming them. Gets old.

How does anyone get that anyone is "dictating" anything - the question is WHY? I simply do not get the point of why you would post on this forum. It just seems somewhat insane to me.

I happen to love the US very very much - I am a patriot and a veteran. Someone posted State Department notes about Mexico and I merely brought up that some seem unaware that there is also crime in the US. A little factual research might clarify what I posted. It has nothing to do with liking the US or liking or disliking Mexico. It has to do with some facts about crime. Please carefully read what is written and do not make up things and put words in other people's mouths.
