Pacific highway (Blaine to Surrey) border crossing

Does anyone else find the Canadian customs as you head back north into Canada very tight at Pacific Highway from Blaine into Surrey? We have a Class A motorhome and we really have to line up carefully with little room to spare on both sides to avoid scraping mirrors (or worse!) We did see another Class A turn off and go through the lane for commercial buses but not really sure if he should be there or how long he had to wait as he was behind a commercial bus. I have heard that the Aldergrove crossing is better but it is out of our way. Not sure how the main crossing on I - 5 is. ???

We go back and forth across the border at the truck crossing regularly with a 29' TT. We have Nexus passes and don't know if the northbound lanes are tighter for non-Nexus lanes, but it doesn't look like it. Going northbound is a piece of cake compared to entering the US. If you go through the Nexus lane into the US, it is extremely tight to get through and you need to get lined up just right before approaching the booth. The yellow steel posts have lots of scrapes in them.... At the southbound exit, they have a bunch of concrete barriers at the exit and it's like an obstacle course to get through.

The northbound truck lanes at Pac. Hwy are only for trucks. Southbound, sometimes when it's busy, they let RVs go through the truck lanes which is good because the exit is easier.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen big motorhomes at the truck crossing, just lots of fifth wheels and TTs and smaller MHs.

The truck crossing (Pacific Highway) is a lot worse than Peace Arch or Aldergrove. Have not been through Peace Arch for many years but we have heard that it is very good for RVs.

The Aldergrove crossing is quite easy. From I-5 you can either cut across on H street or you can go up Guide Meridian from Bellingham. At Aldergrove going southbound, RVs have to use the truck lane so it's easier. I think Aldergrove is the better one to use if you don't have Nexus.

If you are in the Surrey area or heading towards Vancouver, Sumas is too far east. Pac. Hwy is the closest for us so that's the one we use.

If you don't have Nexus cards, we highly recommend them. We often sail through when the lineup for regular lanes are backed way up.

Going down at the US customs is tight but very manageable so we have no problem there. It is the Canadian customs coming north! And annoyingly that crossing was upgraded not too long ago -- we had "land yachts" then!

The ports in many locations here in Washington have been recently been rebuilt to accommodate heavier traffic and the new electronic systems. Them seem narrow but are about 10 foot wide. They seem narrow when you squeeze an 8.5 rig plus mirrors through them.

If you are not a commercial truck, carrying cargo or freight for pay, stay out of the `truck lanes `` at any border crossing port.

Remember that many of the crossing ports were built a long time ago, before `land yachts `came along. They aren`t going to tear down the booths, just to make them a bit wider.

We cross over at Sumas.
WA 539 crossing at Aldergrove didn't seem too bad.
The new license plate reader poles make it close on all the routes.
I-5 has major back ups during the weekends.
