Roll Call Alaska 2014

Anyone traveling to Alaska in 2014? We ,my wife and I, are planning a trip and was wondering if anyone is planning on going in 2014 also.
Would go this year, except we have two weddings to go to in MI, one in late June the other in early August.
So next year we are planning to leave home in NC in mid July, we plan a 2 month trip. We were there in 2004, only that time we were with paid RV tour. Loved it, and would take another paid tour in a 'heart beat', but the cost is now too much.
The reason for the mid July date is looking at the 2013 Alaska postings the wx, road conditions and insects are at their worst. Later in the season all three are better. Plus I want to travel back on the Cassiar Hwy in Sept is supposed to be the best time of the year on the Cassiar, plus less travelers.
Finally, money is an issue with us. So we will 'boon dock', stay at
free or low cost CG's, rest areas, etc. when ever possible.

Hope you all have a great trip and hope to see you some where along the way.

Also is everyone intending to put a ROLL CALL 2014 sign somewhere on their RV?

What kind of wording? I am thinking of just saying "Roll Call Alaska 2014" and put it in my street side window behind the driver's seat.

BTW If you have a Verizon phone then you can call Verizon BEFORE entering Canada and add phone service for an additional $15/month with the Telus system. Very worth while for us. We kept the service while in Alaska and cancelled when we returned to the lower 48. Be advised that as you head north cell towers are limited to the towns with no in between service. And no Verizon cell data service.

You can buy a Canadian data plan (MiFi equivalent) but it's $$$.

Perhaps someone can post the Canadian options for traveling in the US.

The larger the sign the better. Our large 2013 sign was on the back of the toad which gave us more visibility as we towed and drove it. We also stopped by a few CGs when someone posted where they were and others looked us up. It was nice to meet others through the rv.net connection.

We found that the smaller (8.5"x11") signs were easier to overlook.

WiFi can work also but everyone seems to be more interested in seeing the sights and WiFi quality and availability is often marginal.

You can put us down. Plan on leaving June 2 and returning some time the beginning of August. We have the trip all planned out. It's too big to post all the stops. Maybe later. Rich & Mary (Graydust) PS we will have a roll call sign on our rig. Hope to see a lot of you.

Wildlife viewing - also get this guide, no cost to have it mailed to you. Or download the pdf if you wish more instant gratification, then pick it up at the Watson Lake Tourist Info Center on your way through.

It is a good one for Yukon http://www.yukoninfo.com/yukon-wildlife-viewing-guide/

We are planning leaving on or around June 1. Returning around August 1. Very much looking forward to this trip, as it is our 50th wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. Our interests, include bird and wildlife watching, photography, and history of all the areas.

Maybe you should plan a visit with me on your way up; can fill you in on the spots to watch for birds and wildlife to photograph.

One of my favourite shots; a grizzly cub along the Alaska Highway near Contact Creek. Momma griz didn't seem too concerned about me but I also made sure I kept a respectful distance!
