Roll Call Alaska 2014

Anyone traveling to Alaska in 2014? We ,my wife and I, are planning a trip and was wondering if anyone is planning on going in 2014 also.
Would go this year, except we have two weddings to go to in MI, one in late June the other in early August.
So next year we are planning to leave home in NC in mid July, we plan a 2 month trip. We were there in 2004, only that time we were with paid RV tour. Loved it, and would take another paid tour in a 'heart beat', but the cost is now too much.
The reason for the mid July date is looking at the 2013 Alaska postings the wx, road conditions and insects are at their worst. Later in the season all three are better. Plus I want to travel back on the Cassiar Hwy in Sept is supposed to be the best time of the year on the Cassiar, plus less travelers.
Finally, money is an issue with us. So we will 'boon dock', stay at
free or low cost CG's, rest areas, etc. when ever possible.

Hope you all have a great trip and hope to see you some where along the way.

Well, we are on our way! spent the night at Dick's in Great Falls, MT (just a 3 hour drive from the house) and crossed the border at "Del Bonita – Chalk Butte Rd, MT Hwy 213N / AB Hwy 62" - on our way to Cardston. No problem crossing there - he asked about guns, did we have more than $10,000 in cash (I wish) when we were last in Canada, did not want to see the bear spray, dog health certificates, anything else - did not ask about fruits/vegetables/meats/liquor - took our passports, went into office and came back with treats for the dogs (he played with them, really cute) - that was it! We are camped at a lovely campground, Lee Creek CG, in Cardston, $30 for full hookups... heading to St. Albert outside Edmonton for a few days tomorrow on our trip to Alaska! we have our sign, have gotten a few beeps, lots of comments about my jeep/r-pod combo - which is turning out to be very comfortable... if you see us, holler - we'll wave and hopefully
be able to visit for a while!

The one I love is, no border check entering the US at Hyder but there is a Canadian one to re enter Canada.
And if you drive up to Salmon Glacier you reenter Canada and return back to the US all with no border checks! :B

Don't head into Canada with any apples neither. They took our Washington State apples in 2005.

In Fort Nelson, diesel 1.55 a liter, it was 1.48 in Dawson Creek. We stayed by the river just before Fort Nelson.

Internet in the tourist info center in Fort Nelson. It is a nice day, we should have a nice route on the summit pass.

Crossed into Alaska at the Tok station, just north of Beaver Creek, YK. CA. Friday a week ago. Only asked if we bought anything else in Canada other than fuel. Asked about guns, never asked about fruit, veggies, citrus, groceries, etc.

The one I love is, no border check entering the US at Hyder but there is a Canadian one to re enter Canada. And yes, they do ask some seemingly daft questions & repeat questions sometimes. Easiest to simply answer them & be on your way.

At Dawson City right now. We were going to stay at this CG for another night but it is very expensive, the WIFI is unreliable & only available for 2 hours before there are extra charges. So much for advertised "FREE" WIFI. Postage stamp sized sites too. Guess we have been spoiled by the $12 lovely Yukon Gov CG that we have been using in the past 2 weeks.

Oh well, across the Yukon we go today to enjoy another for a couple of nights.

I presented my US Passport being a US citizen, so what the hell do they care what the purpose of my visit was?
They are doing exactly what I want - asking unexpected questions to trip up the bad guys. They are just doing their job and keep in mind that you are entering the US from a foreign country.

Crossed into Alaska yesterday and all they asked about was guns and the purpose of my visit. I presented my US Passport being a US citizen, so what the hell do they care what the purpose of my visit was? And to top it off I was born in Alaska! I can work and play in the US legally, and don't need extra papers to cross. I think the agent was half asleep. So it all depends on who is at the window asking the questions when you cross. Oh, he did want to know if I'd purchased anything in Canada and I told him beer. He said if it was a case or more he'd have to take it.

US Border guards took our tomatoes and lettuce also. We figured it was around lunch time and salad was on the menu!

They will also want your California oranges, or any orange. Unless you peel them and leave the peels at the customs station. :h

US Border Crossings into Alaska beware they want your tomatoes and peppers.

We popped down into Skagway and the wanted our contraband. Didn't care about anything else.

Funny thing is they were California tomatoes.

One more for Alaska. Leaving June 15 from Florida, if we get the motorhome fixed. No air in coach. Looking forward to the trip, the wife not so much. Will owe her big time when we get back.
