Southern Colorado Fires Update

For those headed to or across southern Colorado;
US 160 is still closed between South Fork and Pagosa Springs over Wolf Creek Pass. You must take a detour south from/to Alamosa to/from Pagosa Springs.
CO 149 between South Fork and Creede is still closed. You cannot get to Creede from the south. And the fire is approaching the southern side of Creede.
All RV parks in the South Fork area are closed. Don't know about Creede.
As we were leaving there were a lot of RVs still heading that direction apparently unaware of the situation.
Fire south of US 160 and west of I-25 between Walsenburg and La Veta and southward is still very active and only 10% contained. US 160 not closed but all that area is under pre-evacuation notice.

South Fork, Fun Valley will open probably this Wednesday. We were allowed into the grounds and take care of our spot. Highway 160 is open and finally road can be traveled without an escort. Rain started last night and then poured today.Things are really looking up. At Fun Valley we couldnt tell their had ever been a fire. South Fork is completely opened up. Many firemen still around so give them room.

US 160 over Wolf Creek Pass opened again for traffic this morning. Kept us from our desired route this year, but we ended up in Salida/Buena Vista and had a great time anyway.

The pass can be closed again if the winds shift.

We were camped in the South Fork area. Right now we arein Monte Vsta just watching and waiting. Even now its hard to get information. Ill probably go to the National Forest Service office today and see what I can find out. Been there once and they are very nice. As far as Colorado Springs It is fine now. I knoe Denver is getting some rain. Thars whwt the area needs. Beetle kill trees are killing Colorado.

My guess (and that is all it is) is that Creede inself will be safe. The large open valley on the south side should act as a natural fire break. And the immediate Creede township area does not have the dense forest as the surrounding areas do. But there are a lot of houses just across the open valley to the south that are up in the forest. It is those they are currently concerned about.

The west fork fire has 149 to Creede closed from the east and the Papoose fire is a getting close to 149 on the western side of Creede. There is no other way out of Creede except 149. Does anyone know if Creede has been ordered to evacuate. I have been going to Creede since 1969, what a beautiful place. Hope and pray all goes well for them.
