Speed Limits in Canada

One of the really great things about visiting Vancouver Island is the speed limits. On the Island Highway between Campbell River and Nanaimo, posted speed limit is 120. Wow! Max speed limit in the states is 75mph, sometimes 80.

Our fuel usage is measured in liters per 100 km. (l/100 km).
Our speed is measured in kilometers per hour, (km/h)

BTW, even though the US had a revolution to get rid of British control, they are one of the only countries in the world still using the British system of measurement (albeit a modified version called "US Customary")

Virtually the rest of the world uses Metric!

I recall the speed limit on the Alaska Highway was 50 miles an hour through British Columbia and the Yukon back in 1970. the one time we actually got up to 50 miles an hour , we thought we would surly perish ! L O L :B

I thought Canadians measured fuel usage in l/km? Don't they also measure speed in hr/km?

When I first visited Vancouver Island, the only road was the coast one, which was slow through the resort towns north of Parksville. I recall one slow drive into Campbell River when they were repaving the highway. That inland highway makes a big difference, especially if headed beyond Campbell River. Now Duke Pt to Campbell River barely registers in the overall travel time.

Going slower is going to irritate other drivers and causes people to take chances passing you.
Slower drivers are the dangerous ones causing accidents, even though they themselves think they are the safest ones on the road.
We got stuck behind a motorhome doing 85km on the road between the Yellow Head Highway and Kamloops along the Thompson River. The guy would not even pull over at a rest stop tot let 50+ irritated drivers pass him. Ridiculousโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

Wow is all I can say! Your fuel consumption of 62-65 mpg is most impressive, be it in US Customary units, Imperial, or Metric.;) What kind of additive do you put in your tank?

(Of course I realize you meant mph; just having some more fun.)

You also do realize that Trucks and Motorhomes are expected to drive a wee bit slower than those four wheelers! Stick to 90 ~100 Kmph ,just to be safe!

That's a pretty boring Highway so stay awake and go even slower when it rains!
