Thanks! The beauty is we are in no rush. As long as the road is in good shape, we are good to go!

Below is the way we go every Fall;

Get over to the 99-S when you can to Bakersfield...we usually stay overnight at the Orange Grove RV Park.

Then the 58 to Barstow picking up I-40 to Needles, Ca. Plenty of places to stay overnight...we are Elks members so we stay at the Lodge...6 sites, 50 amp FHU's.

Then we take the ramp left for I-40 East toward Kingman. Then take exit 144, take ramp right for US-95 South toward Blythe.

Then turn right onto US-95 / E Broadway St.

Then turn left onto CA-62 to AZ-95 / S California Ave. to I-10E to Phoeniz.

All good roads.

Thanks had been thinking of taking that way this summer but definitely will now!!

French Camp Rd south of Stockton is a decent road from 5 to 99 or 46 from Lost Hills.

The quickest route is 5, 210 (mid day) and 10. All of the above other routes are longer but less traffic. The 2 lane 58 west of Barstow is in poor shape. The 4 lane portion is OK. I don't recall any significant delays on 58 this summer.

We too are looking to drive from Sacramento to Goodyear, AZ. When we were last on CA 99 (about 4 years ago), it was one giant pothole and a miserable drive. We would like to go down to Bakersfield on 99 rather than I-5. Has anybody been on this route recently? Would appreciate current condition of this route. Thanks!
We were on both this summer and both are OK.

My preferred route is slightly difference. First of all forget going South on 395S. Bumpy and then lots of stop lights.

99s to 58e to 14s exit at E Ave S in the South end for Palm Dale and head East to 138e to 15s to 215s to 210e to 10e.

There are several Camp Site choice in the Palm Dale area. And you are basically at the half way mark at 330 miles. If you want to make it a three day drive, then the Orange Grove in Brakersfield, then Palm Springs area and on to Phoenix the third day. Chris

The Phoenix area is a mecca for RV parks if the on-site Center camp ground is full up. Lots of SNOWBIRDS from the North love the Phoenix area and when we lived there, there was a surprising bunch of Australia folks in the area as well... Never did figure that one out...

I always use GOOGLE MAPS of the area and search for RV PARKS etc... Gives you lots of info on where you might want to be staying...

Of course the winter months in this area is the busiest time of the year.

Best wishes for your wife...
