I am going to Florence, OR after staying in Sutherlin OR. I had planned to take Hi 138 to Hi 38. Is this the best route, meaning the safest route?
I will be pulling a 35 ft fifth wheel trailer.

Road safety is a curious thing. I found an article about the 12 most deadly highways in British Columbia. It had a map of fatal crashes over many years. The highest density of was on major highways. Lesser ones, known for narrow lanes and rough landslide spots had few crashes. It's speed that causes fatalities, not rough narrow roads.

But most RVers fear running off the road because of a lack of guard rails or tight turns, or rolling uncontrollably down steep inclines. Things that might happen when driving slow and cautiously.

Maybe it's that caution that makes rough roads safer.

I appreciate the comments. It makes the trip a better one knowing or learning about the route.
Thanks.

We used that route to get to the coast from Shady Cove while towing a motorcycle trailer behind our motorhome. Very nice drive, although a bit tight in a few places. The road was in good shape and the scenery was outstanding.

Hi neighbor,
That is the way we have been going to Florence Or for the last 17 years, always towing either 5th ws or TT up to 40 ft long. It is good roads and not a lot of traffic during the week. We usually drive from Orangevale to Florence in one day with lots of stops. Takes us 10 to 12 hrs but I am months from 80 yrs old

That is a nice two lane road I take it a lot when going to that part of the coast. It's a safe route as any in the US.
