Tamiami Trai Florida

We will be in the Florida Keys in a couple of weeks. When we leave there we will be heading north to the Naples area for a week or so. My question is, has anyone taken the Tamiami Trail across Southern Florida? If so, is it an RV friendly road, or would we be better off just sticking to I-75 across Florida?? We have a 33 foot Class C Coachmen Concord. Also, any recommended campgrounds in the Naples/ Ft. Myers area and any other helpful info would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Nice scenic route. We took it this past January and enjoyed it. Don't forget to stop at the smallest Post Office in the US.

We've taken it many times and find it very interesting but sometimes considerable traffic. There are a few campgrounds. Our favorite is Midway, in the Big Cypress Nat'l area but right on the highway. All paved sites and half-price with the "golden age" pass but water only at the site. Fairly small and fills but a nice no hook-up campground 5 or so miles west. The road lacks services such as laundry, supermarket etc. Around 100 miles between Miami and Naples.

Midway Campground is electric only, no water at the sites. We were there in January.

If you have plenty of time and don't mind heavy traffic with lots of lights, yes there is plenty to see and it is a good two or more lane highway.

If traffic bothers you then stay on 75. We winter on Sanibel and it seems like every year the traffic is worse than the one before.

Tamiami (US41)is the route we take when going up the west coast. Catch 997 (Krome Ave) in Florida City to the Tamiami. We then take Collier Blvd over to I75 as we approach Naples. We stop at the Big Cypress Welcome center for lunch.
Watch for the gators in the canal on the north side. Its is much more scenic, 20 miles shorter and no toll.
