Well, you all helped us get through through LA.

It is almost time to go through San Francisco. We will be approaching from the south on the 101. Want to end near the coast above S.F. Will go through on Sunday. What way do you all recommend?

Depends on time of day and if you are going to stop and sightsee or just get through town. For getting through town I'd take 280 and 1. No toll on bridge.
Google Earth the two through town routes.

The easiest, and most scenic in my opinion, is come up 280 instead of 101. You can get on 280 in San Jose from 101. Take 280 up to Highway 1 and then get on Highway 1 South. The second exit once you get on 1 should be Skyline Blvd North. Make sure you stay to the right to go North. Follow Skyline and then the Great Highway all the way up the Pacific Coast of San Francisco. If you're stopping to visit things you'll be going by Fort Funston, the Zoo, Golden Gate Park, The Cliff House, and Ocean Beach as well as other things. You'll up back on Geary Blvd and can get back on Highway 1 from there and cross the Golden Gate.

+1 for straight over the Golden Gate. Sure the streets are tight. Go slow and you are fine.
BTW no toll for northbound :B

+2 for driving through San Francisco. Easy ride, just make sure you drive at a reasonable rate and have plenty of time! There might be a toll going south to north (I don't remember) so just have some dollars and coins handy! Have fun!!

San Francisco is a breeze once you've navigated through Los Angeles, trust me!!

Ok this is not the best way but it's the most fun. Just stay on 101 follow the signs to the Golden Gate Bridge easy as that. Make sure you have plenty of time and plenty of fuel. It will take you right through the City. Great entertainment. Just drive slow and enjoy the show. The folks in SF are really pretty nice drivers. They don't cuss at you or anything. Unlike the drivers in New York and Boston. Nope the San Franciscans are great people. I took that rout with a F250 pulling a 26ft 10000lb boat. Not one driver flipped me off or honked at me. Good people they are. You will love Van Ness Ave
