Tunnel into Zion--how difficult or alternative?

At Zion National Park, we note that vehicles over 7'10" wide or 11'4" high have to pay fee (still $15?) and get escort through tunnel. We are in that category. Can someone with the experience tell us what is involved--how difficult it is? Is there an alternative? We will be driving in from southeast of Zion.

We have a 2007 F-250 hauling a Lance 815

Here's a couple of videos I did while at Zion NP, just drive down the center of the tunnel.click on photos for videos.

Are you coming up on SR89? if so you can stay at one of the RV parks and just drive your truck in. Are you going to other National Parks in the area?

Zion Tunnel Information

Traffic is put into the one way mode for oversize vehicles and you pay your fee at the park entrance kiosk.

Everyone worries about the tunnel but the tunnel is fine. It is the road on the West side of the Tunnel. Rode with a friend who lives locally to see if I wanted to go thu the tunnel and decide I didn't want to drive the road. There are routes to the North & South. We took the southern route thu Colorado City. Look on Youtube and see if you can find a video of the road & tunnel, then decide.

Same here, no problem. At that time we had a 27' TT. We came in through the North.

It's a 7 day pass for 2 trips should you want to come back out. MH length limit of 40' and combined trailer of 50' which includes MH with toad.

Going east we were the first in line and a number of people thanked us as we all took pictures where you can't otherwise stop. We've never been escorted as they just tell you to drive down the center. Enjoy Zion which is one of our favorite parks.

Thanks. I assumed they'd have to have a ranger stationed there to take care of it so this is helpful.

It's not difficult at all. A ranger will collect the fee before you enter the tunnel. Traffic is stopped so that it's essentially a one way road through the tunnel. When we did it in the spring two years ago there were enough people going through that we had to wait in line for maybe 10 - 15 minutes. Then everyone goes through at once, cars and RVs. The only alternative is to drive all the way around outside the park.
