Traveling from Charleston, SC. To Myrtle Beach, SC. How is US route 17?

We just drove it last week and this was not my experience. There is a lot of four lane and bypasses around many of the towns including the interstate loop around Charleston. As you approach Myrtle Beach you can bypass much of the stop and go by taking SC-9 to SC-31. It is 4 lane limited access with several exits to Myrtle Beach before it ends at SC-544.

We take 17 often, sometimes all the way from Florida to Virginia. Good road most of the way.

Slow, lots of traffic, construction, traffic lights.
Lots of places to refuel, buy stuff, camp.
Plus, it's pretty much the shortest distance between two points, Not many other options.
