Washington DC to MI and tolls

We are traveling back to MI from Washington DC and am trying to figure out what the tolls would be on those two turnpikes. I am a 22,000# gas mh w/2 axles towing a malibu max car. Using Good sam route planner puts me onto the PA turnpike at exit 161 and exits at OH , Breezewood (Ithink). What info do I enter into the turnpikes' toll calculator?

Also, is there a good route that I could drive without tolls?

as always, thanks in advance

If you count spindles, it has six. If you count by the definition of a wheeled load bearing assembly (SAE) It is one axle in the back. There is only one attachment to the frame and one set of suspension (springs) per side. It is the difference between dual and tandem.

That is why we boycott the Machinaw Bridge, I don't like paying the same toll as a Greyhound bus.

We play this game all the time.....

My coach is an antique gasser that does at reliable 9.2. The other problem is that toll people think it has three axles. It doesn't but they can't think enough to recognize a tandem instead of dual rear wheel.

I would select the Morgantown route but use Canton instead of Columbus particularly with current fuel prices. But, once close to Cleveland, we would we would do a US6 to US2 to 280 (then 75 SOUTH to 475 to 23 - we don't live in Chelsea anymore). We do buy fuel in Ohio, but I never pay tolls there after a bad time with the Ohio Airforce years ago.

Put Columbus and Morgantown as way points to avoid most of the tolls also IMHO I-68 is an easier drive than the toll rd in PA.

BOL,

thanks, when I click "avoid tolls" in google maps and good sam trip planner thats a route that comes up. It adds an hour of time and 75 miles to avoid tolls. So is it worth it?some of it might be Ohio tolls too. We are not in a rush to get back so it might be the way to go. Thoughts?

Having driven both routes the time is the same, unless you are in a sports car, then the toll road is 45 minutes faster if I remember - the way I drive - and the stress is much less going to Columbus and Morgantown - less truck traffic and an easier drive with no tolls.

Made about twenty trips to the Elkhart/Wakarusa area when we had the Coach built.

Here's the Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Calculator.
Coming from D.C. you will get on (the PA Turnpike) at Breezewood and off at the Ohio State Line.

I found that but didn't know what to put in for a vehicle. Do I do two even though one is being towed? And use the weight of the MH? Or do one w/ 4 axles and the mh weight?

Good question. Sorry, I thought there was a drop down for a towed vehicle.
Probably the best thing would be to contact the Turnpike Customer Assistance Center - 800.331.3414.

thanks for that #, I emailed customer service and maybe one day they will email me back. Thats a good number to have
