After a long wait, the visa arrived from Mexico City. Not only did the visa come, but it includes multiple entries and good until Nov. 2019.

We crossed the border into Vancouver today. Crossing was easy although they kept us for an hour and a half showing lots of documents and answering questions about how much money we had to spend for the summer.

We are parked at the Capilano River Rv Park for the night and heading to Vancouver Island in the morning. The rv storage at this park is $18 a day.

Thanks for everyone's advice and help.

Well of course, here in Victoria, we all know that the holiday is to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday, so it is Victoria Day. The reason that it is known as the May 24 weekend is not because 24 is the date, which often it isn't, but because that is when most Canadians buy a flat of 24 beer for the weekend!

Cannot remember hearing that before. Or if I did, I thought it 'some beer drinkers' idea.

Rule of thumb for the day of the holiday is the last Monday in May before May 25, which as said, for 2014 is May 19. & I googled that up to check on 'usage'.

:C
& I, I took the road less travelled by.

We crossed the U.S. border yesterday. It's Spring break in Mexico so the border was packed with people traveling to the U.S. We arrived in San Antonio around 6 p.m.

We should be crossing into Canada around May 15th to the 20th. You can see our progress on the blog listed in my signature. Finally on the road.

When you go through Ontario if you can make it a definite place to see is Algonquin park. The park has many campgrounds fore your particular type of camping.

Welcome to Canada! We can look to the North West if standing on a chair in the upstairs here and, across the Strait of Georgia, looking between Harwood and Savory Islands, can see the lights of Campbell River. Today we have bright, clear air and sparkling sunshine and max.temperature will be about 15 C. No snow here for the past month, and none expected until at least late November!

Someone asked about the source of this info -- here it is -- scroll down to May 24:

Sky and Telescope article

They call it May 24, but that is in Universal Time, which is really late on the 23d in the Pacific time zone.

Chris, do you know where you will be on the night of May 23-24? There will be a great meteor shower visible from Canada -- it is supposed to peak from around dusk till 2 am, or so they say.

We were meeting up with a brother in Oregon but that was cancelled so we will continue on. I hope we will be on Vancouver Island by then. I will check it out and thanks for the heads up.

Congrats and welcome to Canada!

It's unfortunate, but the visa requirement for Mexican citizens is necessary.

This meteor shower could be very exciting! It is a new one, so it is very unpredictable. The current estimates range from zero to 1000 meteors an hour, with the most likely around 200 per hour, which is two to three times the rate of the more familiar 'Perseid' shower in August.

Where did you get this information? May 23 is my son's high school graduation and it would be extra special to be able to take the kids outside and show them a meteor shower.

We are on Southern Vancouver Island.
