What Do I need To Visit Canada

I have tried to wade through the info in the links for traveling to Canada and I am more confused than when I started. It seems all the FAQ's deal with others than U.S. citizens. We will be crossing into Canada from Maine and some time in June and back into the United States maybe in Michigan. We have a class A and will be towing our car. What do I need to be able to enter into Canada and spend a few weeks there before coming back to the U.S. We have our passports and all documentation for our vehicles. Is there more? Thanks. Chuck

Actually you can stay up to 6 months then you would need to apply for an extension or other immigration type status.

You will likely not want to be here in the winter; even us Canadians don't really want to be here in the winter! :B. :B

Even SOME Canadians haven't learned how to play in the snow and take joy from the crunch, crunch of walking on it. Skiing downhill, skiing cross country, snowshoeing, snow boarding, ski-doing,snow fort building, snow fort combat.........

I did for many years with the Canadian Ski Patrol for 15-20 weekends per year. However now I'm done :E I prefer walking on the beach, seeing the dolphins, listening to the surf and fishing with my buddies. :C :C

Eric,

That sounds real nice. I might have to visit Myrtle beach next winter. I could almost hear the surf from your description.
Thanks.

How long can you stay for vacation (no work) without visa or other special docs- just showing up with passports and your RV?

They can stay till their money runs out...then we escort them back to the hole-in-the-wal..uhh border.

Our vet just said that Canada, Mexico and the US have increased checking the international health certificate for dogs and cats which is good for 30 days. Just a heads up.

You have rec'd good advice with all the replies above. Just relax and have a good time in Canada, it's a beautiful country, the people are great, crime is very low compared to the US, and you will learn many new things about North American history and settlements especially in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. We have been to all of the provinces over the past few years and enjoyed every one of them. Hopefully you can visit Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal and have a couple days in Quebec City; they are truly worth your time, the highways near Montreal are a little rough but just slow down and avoid the potholes! We liked the provincial and federal CG's for camping. Don't be in a hurry while you're in CA, and spend extra time if you can (or plan for a future visit real soon)!

If you bring a MINOR with you, make sure you have a permission letter from her parent(s). We did years ago for our niece because it is always smart to do...didn't realize HOW important it was until we produced it at the Customs station at St. Mary's Airport.

That was 20 yrs ago, probably more important today.

Just remember once you get across the border into Canada that those roadside signs saying "100" are no longer in mph. ๐Ÿ™‚

You know..maybe it's a terminology thing. In Canada, we carry documentation of ownership and insurance in the vehicle. Perhaps we just figure in the US is same/same. Do you not? If not, then yes...some sort of proof of ownership and insurance would be required. If you have that, then you don't need a 'card' too.

Current possession of the vehicle you are driving and have registered in your name or possession of a rental vehicle agreement is prima fascia evidence of ownership. Most border Officers would take the above as you having the right to be driving said vehicle.

Only cause for extra scrutiny by the officer would be detection of deception, visible obvious nervous behavior, or other learned and observed irregularities that cause the Officer to take note.

Safe travels.
