Winter set in hard in our region. It's been dang cold several times and it's still early in the season. Even my husband is griping and he's a farmer, loves winter, snowmobiling and all. I really hate the cold and ice, but I'm smiling. This is our last full winter in the deep freeze! When I step outside and the warmth is blasted away from my head, and my jeans freeze on my legs, when the cold goes right through me, I smile and think: Bring. It. On.

Today in North Florida it is 77 degrees and partly cloudy and feels absolutely wonderful. No bugs here now.

Being out in the cold can be fun and enjoyable if:

You dress for the weather and activity.
You can do something entertaining while out in the cold.
You are with fun people enjoying the same activity as you.

As you age pushing a shopping cart in shorts and sandals is so much more pleasant then trying to get the wheels rolling in snow slop. As you age having car problems is not so terrible in shorts and sandals while you dial AAA for help. As you age going out for a bite to eat is so much more enjoyable in shorts and sandals knowing you don't have to blow out the driveway first. As you age having two extra hours of daylight helps fight SAD syndrome. The list goes on and on, but I think you get the general idea.

Enjoy your winter wonderland, we all did when we were younger.

Boy, I think you hit the nail on the head!

Used to love all that stuff in the winter.... hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. .... when I was younger. Now, I can't wait to get out of here for those months. If all goes as planned, 2 more winters and there will be no more snow shoveling, sliding on icy/snowy roads and just the pure misery of bone-chilling weather. Age magnifies all of that.

All of the above and no mosquitos here?

Price we pay for being next to the Gulf I guess. That 90% humidity comes with a kicker.

Have you ever tried to do anything recreational outdoors in cold weather?

These are a few of my fears (after having made an attempt).

I'm comfortable and happy in the sunbelt.

I have been sick when the weather is cold... Does that count? I have broken many bones during the winter.

I have worked outside in extremely cold weather. People around here do it every day.

Ice fishing is a good time. I call it beer drinking while in a shed. Very rarely does this get interrupted by a fish.

We recreate often in the cold weather. I have recreated each of the last 3 days in the cold. Sunday morning it was -10* windchill and my 12 year-old and I went snowboarding... Felt good. The sun came out and I actually had to take off a layer because I got hot!!!

I always suspected that there was an explanation. It's simple, you have to be cut out for it (living in cold climates).
I love this country,.....big enough for the both of us....:B

I think you are correct, my friend ... Although my brother said to heck with it and moved to southern Missouri! Does not get TOO cold there... ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone who lives in S.D> would probably answer similar :@

When you live up here you become one with nature, summer and winter.
Last year I was excited that we had enough snow that I could go snowshoeing before we headed to Florida.
This year we are leaving earlier so no chance.
But,:W I sure am glad I don't have to spend the whole winter here.:B

It's 65 degrees here in ATL today. After work, I'm going home, put on a pair of shorts, grill a steak on the patio, then have dinner on the deck. Afterwards I may mess with our 5'er a bit, it needs some inside cleaning. We lived in Minot for 1 year back in the mid seventies. That was enough. Y'all can have it.:B

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!

It took us 60 years of memorable snowfalls and deep-freeze days to finally spend Winters here in Clearwater - it was worth every minute of the wait and we truly appreciate each day more. Take heart, your days in the sun will be here before you know it.

I complain about our Pennsylvania winters.

I can't imagine what it's like farther north.

Hang in there, you'll be out of the cold/snow soon enough.
