Alsatian RV Resort

Well, I've got good news and I've got bad news. First the good news. What a beautiful RV park. It is located between Castroville - San Antonio and Hondo, Texas. Great little park adjacent to a beautiful golf course. The pads are very nice -- wide and concrete level. The landscaping is very well planned and planted -- very welcoming. The facilities are top notch with a bar and restaurant open on the weekends. The pool is heated but too low to make it a good swim. 85 degrees is not close to being warm enough. It is a beautiful pool and pool area though. Nice for a wedding. The owner(s) have spared no expense in opening this park. Now, the bad news. Location, location, location. Nothing will kill an RV park quicker than a poor location. Alsation is too far out from any kind of entertainment or shopping. As per their website it states it is 20 miles to San Antonio - nope! It is 20 miles from the edge of Castroville to the edge (City Limit) of San Antonio but the city proper is further and even further to a grocery store. NOTHING in Castroville -- small Lowes grocery store. Hondo is 14 miles the other way and there is a Wal Mart there and a well stocked HEB. Bandera is 28 miles North of Hondo and is a pretty cool little town with some unique shops and shopping. Kerrville is about 25 miles north if Bandera and is pretty cool too. So, there you have it. Very nice park worth your consideration for a short stay. But as for an extended stay? If you don't play golf you have nothing to do and it is freaking COLD this far South.

justaguy,

Hi there, while you have nothing to do, could you run over to the golf course and find out all the details, like cost for 18 holes with cart, and if they have a club house with food and bar, is there a cart girl while on the course or do I have to bring my own.... and so forth. Thanks

I only tried to put justaguy on the right track. Shopping is not on my priority list while holidaying. Golfing is. I'm sure most of the rv-ers do not travel to shop neither.

Easy boys, just givin' an opinion to the under 60 crowd that might want to know about the park and what to expect. Like I said, beautiful park and looks like a great place to play golf -- not a place to winter tho. JMHO

85F for a pool, my gawd you would need a rubber ducky and bar of soap. I thought pools were supposed to be refreshing not hot.

Complaints are always personal preference. I think in this case the post is meant to keep people away. The op likes it so much that they want it all to themselves.

For me, part of the rv experience is exploring. I don't consider 20 miles too far. Nor is 85f too cold for a pool. It's a pool, not a hot tub. 85f is considered the ideal standard pool temperature.

There are a few good places to shop - downtown Manhattan, for example. But I personally prefer shopping in London, or Paris. For food nothing beats local farmer markets south of Lisbon.

Just a food for thought for the potential users of the park, who are looking for something to do.
