Anybody camping on Easter?

We are discussing making our maiden voyage with the TT on the long Easter weekend. Smoked ham on the fire and an Easter egg hunt in a campgound sounds like a lot of fun! Only challenge for us will be the weather being that we are in mid-Michigan. I'm not sure how far we are wanting to travel but it sounds like a good idea so far. Anyone else planning on heading out for the holiday?

Not very busy here at North Higgins.

First visit and will be my last. The sites are thick with mud, the picnic table and fire pit are in disrepair. There's a highway right next to my site that has constant high speed traffic blasting by.

We stayed at N Higgins once, long ago, and I would describe it as unremarkable. It was late fall so there was no mud and it wasn't crowded, but South Higgins is much nicer.

We arrived at our private site in upstate NY on Thursday to spend the Easter weekend visiting with our kids. The various campgrounds we passed in the area still appear to be closed.

Nothing open here on Cape Cod. Bourne Scenic Park delayed opening until next week, Scusset Beach didn't let anyone in on the weekends this spring. I guess they should shift the season 1 month and stay open until Thanksgiving.

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

I can send you a note on the status of the "closed" sites that Friday if you like? I have about a 3.5 hour drive and plan to get there early in the afternoon.

Alternately you could try calling park HQ at (989) 821-6125

Thanks for the offer, but if we go it will be early Friday as well.

Just booked three nights at North Higgins. Looking forward to roasting a ham on the Weber.

N. Higgins is on our short list if the weather is good, however when I just checked for availability it shows only a few sites available. Do they only open up a small portion of the park in the off season?

I think that's the case. They keep X number of sites plowed open in the winter, and the rest are subject to natural accumulation.

Some parks are OK with camping on "closed" sites, some aren't. I've never visited this park in the Winter, however I go to Ludington often and they've never refused my money for a closed site. Just can't pay for it over the yellow phone, need to use the iron ranger instead.

I picked a 30a site for my trailer and a buddy is taking a cabin for his family, rather than setting up tents on potentially soggy ground.
