My first suggestion is to call and determine what will be open. The Covid count is on the rise in No. WI. Many places may be closed or on limited hours. How much time to you plan to spend in the area? Do you want to pull the trailer with you? I would find a campground much closer to the Islands than Pattison, you are going to spend several hours just driving to the Islands.
Hi 13 is a decent 2 lane road, but it does have curves and hills, regardless of the direction you take. If you want to see it all, use the following directions
The scenic way to see the Apostle Islands would be to take WI 13 from Superior WI to Port Wing, Herbster and Cornucopia. At Corny, stop at Meyerโs Beach and hike out to the Sea Caves. It is a fairly strenuous hike, hiking poles are recommended.
Continue on 13 to Little Sand Bay visitorโs center, tour the old fishing camp. Island tour boats are docked here also. Take a swim in the big lake.
Back on 13 to Red Cliff Reservation. There is a campground, casino and a tribal park.
4 miles down 13 to Bayfield, take the ferry to Madeline Island. There are nice restaurants and Bodine Fishery. They sell smoked Lake Superior trout and salmon. Hit one or more of the apple orchards for fresh picked or pick your own apples.
Down the road is Washburn, and then on to HI 2, turning east to Ashland and then on to MI.
Try to stop at the Great Lakes visitor center at the junction of 2 & 63. It is a great place to stop and get some history of the area.
Enjoy your trip
