Are you camping at the 2014 NHRA US Nationals?

This will be my first time. Please expand on anything about the dry camp grounds, schedule, if you'll be there, costs, atmosphere, etc. There is very little info on the Lucas Oil Raceway page and some is conflicting. They say it's first come, then offer tickets online in advance. It's $125 for ?? (a day, weekend). Is it probably already full? It's 50'X20' sites, OK if they enforce the size and how about overall security? It's all new to me.

Thanks

Thanks for the detailed reply. Wish more people would report back with this kind of info. So many of them ask for help and then disappear.

Info for the future.
We attended the US Nationals Drag Race last week and dry camped in the Lucas Oil Raceway camping area. This is a grassy, 300 acre pasture with some shade on the perimeter in the NE corner of Raceway property. You enter the camping area through the Main Gate off Hwy 36. A flat fee of $125 (1st come) will allow you to camp Tuesday to Tuesday or any nights between those days. Racing starts Wednesday and all final eliminations are Monday (usually Labor Day). There is one gravel road that splits the grounds in half, but no other hard, load bearing surfaces, just mowed grass. Raceway security stays at the gate 24/7 and local law enforcement cruise through out the grounds. Out houses and security lights are the only facilities, but rumor is a honey wagon and drinking water can be contacted. I'm guessing there was 25% occupancy...lots of open area. The security will shuttle you the 3/4+mile to the ticket office when it's convenient. The neighbors were civilized, not much partying, very informal track staff and the track noise is 3/4-1 mile away. The grounds are 400 yards from the very end of the shut-off area.

I don't think it is going to be dry camping as the weather forecast shows scattered or isolated thunder storms Wednesday thru Saturday, with Sunday partly cloudy and Monday mostly Sunny.

Now that I look again at the map poncho provided, I suspect the Press-Driver RV area is only for Press-Drivers. The Lucas Camping has some hookups, but the track web page say they're not affiliated with LOR. Makes me more curious where the dry camping is located. Phones are always busy.

Just went and looked at their map...

..That Lucas campground was not there when I went....The campgrounds I am talking about were at the bottom of the map along Hunter Rd.....

I last went in 1998, so things may have changed. There are 2 campgrounds directly across from the track. We went without reservations, it is first come first serve. There are some electric sites up for grabs at a higher price. I dont remember the rates, but your $125 for the week seems about right. First time, we stayed in the larger campground...it has the electric. The washroom and shower facilities suck, so you best have your own. Second time we went, stayed in the other campground...no electric, much the same with the facilities......
Mainly just a place to sleep....after racing hours, its basically party central.....Good time
