Would like suggestions on RV parks that are close or on the beach here in Florida. We hope not to have to tow a car. Neither one of us can walk very far due to knee issues.
Private or state parks.
Thanks, Linda

A week or so camped on the beach would be okay, but you still should use 2 or 3 cans of WD-40 and coat every metal object you have with you, including your RV.

We generally spend 4 months 1.5 miles from the beach in Ft. Myers Beach and our bicycles and everything else rust really fast.

Camping right on Florida beaches is not only expensive but extremely hard on your equipment/toys.

You don't want to be right on the beach anyway. Salt spray is not cool to all those nice metal pieces all over your camper. North Beach has it all: intercoastal on one side, beach on the other. Bad knees you say? Well just drive your car up to the front of the campground, cross the street, and park in the adjacent parking lot. And there's the beach right at your fingertips. Not to mention its a bit north of the most crowded beach areas in the St. Augustine area, so it's a nice place to be.

Opps...I confused Jetty park with Sabastian Inlet. Jetty park has some sites on its east end that are across from the parking lot thats across from the vegetation that must be crossed by a board walk to get to the beach. If U happen to get a site on its west end you have a LONG walk to the beach. Sabastian Inlet still has the 'BUG SITES' but has increased the # of sites since I was where. There are now sites out in the sun.

One end of the Jetty Park campground has a pedestrian gate that exits to the parking lot for the beach. From there, it's only about 150 feet to the beach. Pretty close, by my standards, and if you don't want to hike, there is plenty of parking if you make the very short drive. Good spot to watch the cruise ships going in & out of the shipping channel, as well as launches from the Kennedy Space Center, which is on the other side of that shipping channel.

Fort DeSoto is very nice, but although many of the campsites are on the water, you have to drive (or perhaps bike) to the beach. But well worth it.

Also, Jetty Park CG is NOT on the beach. Nestled in the bushes and can be a major bug problem. About a 1/4 mile walk to the beach or fishing jetty/pier.
At Tampa/St.Pete is a County CG called Ft. Desoto. One of our favorites, but hard to get a reservation & kinda expensive. There are water front sites with views of the bay not the gulf. Some sites you can wade into the water and others have a rock bank barrier thats almost impossible to crawl across. Wonderful park with its own fenced in dog run areas and even a dog beach! The old military Fortress,ie; Ft. Desoto, is an amazing site to see also.

Anistasia CG is NOT on the beach. Its about a 1/2 mile walk or drive to it.
Beverly Beach has True ocean front sites. The park is basically a large square vacant lot, very little vegetation & kinda expensive.
Top Sails CG is NOT on the beach, but they have a shuttle bus to take u there. About 1/2 mile.
Gamble Rodgers IS nestled between the Hyway and the ocean. There is about 20 yards of thick vegetation between waterfront sites and the ocean. U must go down to the boardwalk passage to get to the beach.
Ft. Picken is ON THE BEACH!
In the Keys, Long key State Pk. has TRUE water front sites, but little shade.
Curry Hammock St.Pk. has some 'water view' sites, but again with some vegetation between site and water. No shade.
Bahia Honda, our favorite, has about a dozen truely water front sites. U can swim at your own site. Other sites are back in the bushes.

When you can get a campsite on Loop A, Fort Pickens Campground in Pensacola is a delight. Beautiful white sand beach right across Pensacola Sound from NAS Pensacola which is home for the Blue Angels. You might get to experience one of their air shows on a Wednesday during their "season". Rejoice!

Oh ya, I forgot. There is a trolley service that stops in front of the park that will take you all over FMB.
